Outboard repairs Newquay (Cornwall)

So I've not even got on the water yet and my engine has packed in. Mercury 50hp circa 1990. Changed the impeller and started it up on muffs and it ran fine. Then stopped dead. No coughs, just as if I had turned it off and now it won't start!!! Spark looks very weak and has brand new petrol in it. I have no experience with this ignition system so don't know where to start!!
I have noticed the plugs aren't the ones I've seen specified with service kits, they are the ones with the central anode, not the standard angled ones. Ta

Fully charged as cranking well. With killswitch on there is minimal spark, zero with it switched off.

Hi
I know you would of probably done this but check that the Kill Cord is slotted in the groove and not dislodged as this will cause this problem.

It's slowly becoming apparent to me that I've replaced the impeller incorrectly and that the engine has overheated! I still have 100psi on each cylinder and turns over fine so hopefully no serious damage! I am aware of an overheat alarm (thought this was an over rev alarm in the faulty tachometer) but is this also a cut out?

What is the code on the spark plugs ?

If it is BUHW that is the plug specified for a Mercury 3 cyl 86 - 90 and has a "central anode"

These are surface gap plugs and are susceptible to fouling

BTW what mixture are you running - I take it that it is a 2 stroker ?

It's BU8H. 50:1 fuel ratio.

if you need used -old stock spares and want proper service at a decent price inc p+p i have just used this guy and cant recomend him enough
outboard spares unlimated 01622 817073

other wise check your earths - push connectors - and if it has points [depending on the actual age] clean and check the clearances
try one coil at a time as one may be putting the rest out ?
