Decided to take a day off today,and take advantage off the great weather,nice steady cruise over to cowes for a spot off lunch ,fantastic halfway back across to chichester harbour and I hit something in the water with prop,There was plenty of water beneath us and it didn,t hit the hull,but knew all was not good due to the vibration I could now feel .slowed right down and carried on with my journey at a rather more sedate pace. Bloody hell, upon recovery didn,t have to strain my eyes it was not good ,a good third of a blade missing christ ! A new prop I can handle but I just hope It hasn,t done any further damage ,Would have been better off at work.

A Stainless or Alloy prop. If the latter then you might get away with it, if the former, then.....!

Have a good look at it and place some paper or card underneath to show any signs of oil leakage.

Andy it was alloy so hopefully its taken the blow and just smashed will post some pictures if I can work out how , and the card is now in place so we will just have to wait and see? its just my bloody luck tho.

I have a prop I can use I just need to get it repitched first ,its the stainless prop I wrongly purchased not so long ago .

Toby,

Try Pepes on Hayling Island.

They rebuild props and can change the pitch. Charged my mate £75 to rebuild a badly damaged prop and did it in 24 hrs.

Not too far from you.

I can but give them a try nothing to lose ,how bad does a prop have to be before it can,t be repaired ,Im no expert but mine looks pretty major judging by the looks of things.

My mate had just bought his boat and one blade was all but missing with another large chunk taken out of another blade.

As you say you've got nothing to lose by asking.

Is it really nessesary to have a Alloy prop repaired unless a special. I'm you can get cheap brand new Alloy prop for a little more than a repair and know that the rubber bush is 100%.

As for a SS prop. What size are you looking for Toby?

It looks like I got away with it this time Phew! No trace of leakage in the prop bag Have taken the prop off and I think its only fit for the bin if I,m being honest.Makes me wonder about having a stainless prop,had i had one fitted at the time me thinks It could have been a very expensive afternoons ribbing.Now just need to get a replacement .
