The thing is that lots of people who bought Ospreys are losing quite a lot of money on them and they are really becoming very difficult to sell due to so many home build kits and people dont know what they are buying.
That why the resale prices are falling so sharply.

A couple of weeks ago two Vipermax's one a 6.5m with a 200 Optimax+ 2 adults and the other a 7m with a 250 Etec + 2 adults + 2 teenagers went to the Scillies it was blowing an easterly 5-6 so the waves had built up along the channel giving very confused seas around Lands End. They only passed 3 or 4 well reefed yachts and a large bulk carrier in the shipping lanes(stopping to let it go by)
I'm told the ride was exciting with the ribs jumping from the wave crests clear of the water on numerous occasions and surfing down large swells at 30 + knots with only one minor stuff on the 6.5 m rib the ride was dry for the conditions, they had the passenger bellypoppers flying overhead watching them play.
The final approach was made in very confused seas until in between the islands, after 4 days of sunshine and calm seas the return was made at 35 knots in long swells jumping over container ship wakes.

Will they do it again soon I 'm told.

I just wonder if this means home completed hulls. I certainly wouldn't automatically mark down one of these in price as most are completed to a higher standard than the manufacturers would. Some manufacturers simpy throw the parts at a hull and hope they stay where they landed, not meaning any particular one of course
Certainly my two RIBS have been completed to a better and higher standard than they would ever have been delivered to me built up.
It all comes down to how well the thing has been put together, some folk really go to town even on the details............

Bogib, of all the posts in this thread, yours has hit home the most. I feel embarassed to have been drawn into this pointless argument which clearly has no winner.

I hope your friend finds the boat that most suits him

There should be enough information posted in this thread to give your friend an idea of the value of this boat. Hopefully he'll be able to sift through the bollix posted and make his decision. Also worth considering that Hugh Jardon sold his 6.5m Vipermax/200 opti very quickly at an asking price of around £25k.
If he manages to buy this one for £17500, then he's done alright and I'll be getting in touch with the seller to see if he's got anything else for sale.

Since selling my boat I have had a couple of Rib-eye's. They are fantastic, can't beat em......er....we are talking about steaks here arnt we? It's the only ribeye I can think of that is better than a vipermax!
