Osprey eagle

Hi guys , I’ve recently purchased a 5.6m osprey eagle with the Suzuki 100hp V4 2 stroke engine fitted .
The boat and engine are both in very good condition for what a presume is a mid 80’s rig .
The name on the boat is “Gibraltar 1” and seems to have been on the boat from new .
I’ve been told it could has served as a British Navy vessel in Gibraltar and I’m looking to find out anything I can about the boat . If anyone can give me any info on this boat or this Make /model in particular I would appreciate it .

Cheers , John

Unlikely to have been Navy. It's a typical club dive boat. There are dive outfits in Gib but I'd suspect that the financial logistics of returning a used boat to the UK for sale would be prohibitive. Probably belonged to a UK based club full of Bombastik neo-imperialist FLAGWAIVERS!...

They use Pacific 24’s at the moment . This would have been about 1986 I would think . It has been used a a club Rhib for quite a while . I’ve never owned one before but it seems to handle very well and is very soft ride in heavy seas .

mine didn't bow steered like a bastard and would feel like it would lean/drop to port or starboard with the slightest cross wind, current. if trimmed in in heavy sea.
to be fair though it did have a xl shaft counter rotating outboard that was set quite high to get the cav plate somewhere near so was possibly a top heavy/rigging issue .

That’s strange , mine handles the rough stuff so much better than our club tornado . Its very stable and a lot softer ride even in heavy seas .

oh im sure it was and I wasn't knocking osprey ribs just pointing out that just because its an osprey don't just assume it will be great . my current rib is a valiant and against advice I gave it a try and for what I do its much more comfortable than my osprey was. anyway the op is happy with his eagle and as his obviously is working how osprey intended im sure he will have lots of fun

Looks a nice rig. Some mud guards would not go amiss on that trailer to stop you getting pulled by plod. Very cheap on ebay or similar

Cheers , already got the mudguards sorted , I’m more worried about the possible damage to the tubes from rubbish thrown up by the tyres than the police , it’s fairly easy going on sunny anglesey 😎

There was a service dive club in Gib in the mid 1980s. Dived with them about 86 time. The RAF would have been asked to fly it out there and possibly back. The other possibility is the Royal Engrs have a barracks called "Gibraltar".

You could try a post on the BSAC website to see if anyone recognises it.

Nice Honda btw, why isn't it being used at this time of year
