That's interesting as talking to the builder of the rib the other day he told me it was for a long shaft on that particular rib, the only reason I asked is I am interested in Mike building me a 6.2VM after seeing his work on refurbishing my Avon.
So looking at the replies on this thread has me confused.

On the 5.8 & 6.2 VMs, the transom has to be notched to accommodate a longshaft motor. The top of the transom is flat on this boat.

The 5.8 / 6.2 does have a shorter transom (25") as opposed to the 6.5 and above that have a 27" transom.

Both can take an XL, however it will sit 2" above the transom on a 6.2 not an issue however as you can see from this rig.

When I ordered my 6.2VM I was told that the transom would be built to the 27" dimension as standard. However I wanted mine at 25" so that i could have a bit more flexibility on engine height.

I get the feeling that mike will custom build you anything you want within the designs of the basic mould. But a 20" transom would let a lot of water in unless he built you a splash back well.

Now you may see why I am confused as even people on here who have the VM's differ in their opinions.

I speak from experience of running a VM5.8 with a longshaft motor.
