I have asked the question as well and rib-x doesn't appear to be well known on this forum. I am looking at the 4.5 but I cant find any independent views on it.

The fact that nobody on here has one doesn't necessarily mean they're shit. And it's not even like Br!g, where if you ask for opinions where you get a barrage of negative comments. Which is why I'm looking for people with actual negative experience of them.

For anyone who find this thread in the future looking for opinion on Rib-X: it appears that over on this thread things have been a little more constructive.

It seems they are still made in South African and it is inferred that they are indeed sh!te. If I lived on the south coast I might be tempted to have a look, or if there was other stuff to have a look at, but probably not worth a trip by itself.

there was one who participated in the round of Britain challenge in 2013. he had a small issue but has been fixed quickly ...nice boat will depend maybe on what are you looking for and how you will use it. enjoy your new rib

Dan, not sure I would be too happy about buying a boat that doesn't have advice from the ribnet community but thats just my opinion

Anyway if I was in the market for a boat right now I would be looking at some of the older cobras (even a couple on fleabay) however they are very big boats and not sure about your towing capacity?

But the best used boat I have seen on here is the 6.5m Osprey Vipernax that was advertised in March on here (and again in ebay in June I think). You could buy the boat and use it as it is or if you have change in your pocket after buying it you could add an endless list of improvements / upgrades to it. If I didn't have my Ribeye that is the boat I would have been buying.

Anyway a boat purchase is personal and everyone has different taste, wants and needs and this rambling from me could have been completely useless for you but you never know

Not all boats are the same, even from the same factory but I will add that the two RIB-X boats I use frequently have, how do I put this politely? Questionable attention to detail......

Cheers Gareth. Is that Silverfox you#re talking about? Yeah, twas a nice looking boat, though a trad two smoke if i remember rightly.

Not in a massive hurry to buy if I'm honest. Clamchowder does us fine so happy to wait for the right boat. Think an RC 585 with a Suzi 140 is the ideal. Was out with Bernie Hanreck and Margot Hendrie in Scotland in May and really liked the look of the 585.

I am very pleased having purchased the RC 585 off Margot. Had a couple of run outs on the Straits over the past couple of weeks. Also had a look at a RC 585 that is for sale through Jim at Bembridge Marine. This needed some work to bring it up to the standard of 'Just Lookiing'. We now have a great boat and a different beast compared to my previous 4.8m rib. Had a top speed of 39 knots which is in line with the published data from RC. It cruises comfortably at 20 to 25 knots and at that speed I am expecting to get the same fuel consumption as the old 60hp two smoke.

Having spent the winter searching and looking at the the different ribs I felt the RC was one of the better designs. The Round Anglesey trip at Easter convinced me that I needed a larger rib. I was tempted by the Humber and in particular the 6.0m Ocean Pro. The beam on the Ocean Pro is a similar size to the RC585. Then I read a few threads about the build variability of the Humber.

The Brigs look tempting as did the Ribeyes they have the looks and the layouts but by all accounts they don't ride the same as the RC585

There were two other rib manufacturers that were of interest were the Osprey Vipermax and the Aquaflyte but the chance of getting a secondhand one was going to be slim

I saw the Rib X at the boatshow but did not really come across used boats that were of interest. One of my criteria was to make sure that the rib I bought could be sold easily in the future. The RC has got a good reputation.

In the end the RC won. Really pleased and I have got a really good rib that was looked after well!
