I've done quite a lot of single handed mooring, and provided you've prepared by running the bow line back to somewhere easily in reach it's not usually a big deal.

A handy trick is to tie the ends of the bow and stern lines together, so you can easily step off with both without any chance of losing one as you make the other fast.
