Old hull disposal

Hi,
Anybody got any idea where old scrap fibreglass speedboat hulls can be disposed of in the UK? Something tells me they wouldn't take it at the council tip. It's completely worthless and wont float as I have removed the jetdrive and about 3 foot square of surrounding hull and transom with a grinder. I have also removed all fittings.

Hi
Might be worth phoning the council to check whether a household waste recycling centre will take - I'm sure I saw an old speedboat at the Marchwood HWRC a few month's back!

If you were a bit closer I would have it - could use it on my big trailer for carrying logs and firewood!!!

one of our neghbours got rid of an old robin reliant using everybodys wheelie bins ,he got it in 20 .,,,at our boat club we had a big influx of old speed boats when the lakes put the speed limit on a few years ago ,,ie a few thought about trying the sea out , errr no ,,,consequently ,,we had a few abandoned ones which we burned at 5th november .....though i dont see why a landfill tip cant take it if you have one in your area ...or use it as a feature in the front garden put a few plants in it ,

i'm sure there's a broker on here who can flog it for you, but failing that I disposed of an old hull I cut it into about 6 sections with a latge angle grinder and took each one down to the recycling centre I asked if they would take it and they told me to chuck it in the general skip.

I must say the Southampton recycling centres are rather enlightened, they'd rather see it disposed of in Landfill than flytipped! try the one in Grange road Netley

The policy here in South Glos seems to be you can take anything to the tip (sorry household waste recycling centre) as long as you can fit it in a single axle trailer. If it's a double axle trailer or above whatever the height restriction is you're own your own, they might be able to give you a phone number for someone who'll charge you for it. Dunno how similar other places are.

We've recently had to chop an old rowing boat into lots of pieces and find a friend with a small trailer to try and comply, burning it would have been a lot easier.

Before now ive towed old GRP sailing dinghies to the actual waste dump and dumped them there, although there is a cost depending how heavy the item your dumping is

Because of the amounts of grp involved .. you'd think someone would have taken an active interest in recycling them .. perhaps grinding it back to powder to make into something else .. I've got the same problem with old caravans

Consider burning a GRP hull will give off some seriously nasty fumes........ H&S in mind ! I've seen old hulls, canoes, dinghies etc - 3to 4m at the local tip .

You could donate it to Leeway and he could build a rib from it.

Easiest way is to put it on ebay - start it at 99p and I'm sure someone will take it off your hands.
