I have just watched a video on the F4SA website "MeNtAl" springs to mind..

What sort of speeds are those guys doing?..

Please don't judge all racers by that video - the speed record for a 225 Honda (the fastest one) is only 67mph - other classes go faster with (much) fewer incidents!

Was that a Cougar R8 sport at the begining and end of that video clip? Are you just getting a wee bit excited about the new boat? By the way do you know who already has one over here?

I am very excited...................

The other Cougar is (was) owned by Charles Bilson as a tender for Sara blue 4+3 but as far as I know he has sold all three boats to A chappie in Egypt.

Half the accidents seem to be because the crew are getting thrown out of thier seats or over the side . Why don;t they strap in ?
I know the obvious answer here but isn't there some sort of safety release for a harness ??

They certainly do, and of course the organisers show more crashes to promote the series, but that conflicts with way that the rest of the sport thinks - ie safe no contact racing!

Ian - There will never be belts of harnesses in open top racing - can you imagine having the boat go over at high speed and having the water trying to rip your head off while the harness is trying to keep your body in the boat? No thanks!

Yes i thought that could be the case , can't imagine its a good thing . iam surprised they haven't come up with a harness or belt that releases when inverted . But as you say they show the crashes to get more people watching it and in reality its probably not that bad .
There is something sad really that so many spectators just want to see spectacular crashes , but it seems to be the case with all motorsport and action sport .

I love the look of the Cougar R8 rib. Does it have the same hull as the 225 race boat & if so does anyone know how stable it is under normal (non race) conditions?

Tony, I guess it's slower than your Scorpion but what is the R8 like as a leisure boat? Have you been out in any big seas yet if so I'd love to know what you think.

I too loved the look and feel of the R8,I am expecting delivery next week!
Initial tests with an R8 and 300 Verado in Miami was 71mph..

so I am hoping for similar performance. My Scorpion maxed out at 57 mph..
Should be fun.
I will start a thread when I get some pix sorted
