Ive done round britain (over the top) in a Ribcraft 4.8, Round Ireland in a 6.5 Redbay. The best trip was a few years ago around Scotland in a 4.8 Ribquest, fantastic scenery and then when far offshore, the boat was fantastic in the rough, far more fun than in a big expensive boat.

I used to take my thundercat over to Guernsey regularly one up with a Hand held VHF, Flares and Charts etc, If you have the right kit, are responsible with the weather and your personal abilities, you can reach fantastic distances in small boats and often do more and have more fun than larger boats, there are many advantages to small boats.

My father has just taken a 6 meter Humber to the Arctic Circle from Scotland, he said the trip was the best he has ever done in his life!

Recently (2 weekends ago) took my Brig Eagle 380 and 3 passengers over to Jura (Craighouse) from Kilberry (Port Ban). 12.5 miles - 25 mins. Flat calm on the way over, a little choppy on the way back but great fun.

Pics of my mate with her before we set off, and my wee boy relaxing on the way over.

RIBase
We did Cherbourg - Alderney in our Zodiac 4.2m, pretty arduous but it just comes down to planning the tides right, in a small boat you can begin to feel very vulnerable very quickly, something that in a 6m+ is a rare occurance.
