Ocean 6.25M - Help

Hi

I've just joined the Forum after purchasing a used Ocean 6.25M with 150HP Johnson, to replace my beloved Flatacraft Force 4 with 55HP Suzuki. Anyone interested when I've had a chance to prepare her for sale? See www.simonnash.co.uk for pictures.

Anyway, I need some help with the Ocean.

I can't find any information on Ocean, I'm told they are a different company to Ocean Dynamics, can anyone give me a contact number or website?

I'm in the process of changing the steering for Hydraulics, I have the Helm pump and Ram, can anyone suggest a reliable source of hoses made to measure close to the Solent?

The boat is fitted with the ariel, bracket, power cable and data cable for a Garmin GPS, does anyone have a head unit for sale reasonably cheap?

The boat is on a 4 wheel trailer with hydraulic brakes originaly intended for a Bayliner. It's way too big, and has an American hitch, ie 2&1/4 inch not 50mm. Anyone know of a source for a bolt on towball in the american size, or want to do a deal for a smaller trailer?

Thanks

Nasher.

Ocean ribs are made by the windsor brothers in Porchester. There is a small marina half way up Fareham creek and they are there.

Thanks for the info, Windsor Brothers are very close to me.

About the trailer, I'm looking for a deal to get myself a trailer to put the Ocean on.

Are you based near Porchester? might be good to meet up for a pint and talk RIBS sometime.

Cheers

Nasher.

Is your outboard a Johnson 150 GT VRO? White V6 thing bigger than current outboards. If so its a circa 1987-9 model never used and sold "as new" in the late 90's. Good engines but very thirsty!

Thanks for the number, I'll be in touch over the next couple of weeks for a beer.

Alan
You are spot on with the Engine, It's one of those that went down to the Fauklands then came back again. Plan is to keep it for a couple of years then put a big Four Stroke on it. I'll have to put up with the fuel bills until then.

Falklands?

Thats a variation on the story I heard when we bought one on a BWM in '98. Somewhere in the Gulf was the deal - sat in a crate and then sold for about £3.5k a pop in 98/99. As I say good engines but the most efficient way burn petrol and empty your wallet known to man! When ours eventually died and we replaced with an Opti it was like a Ribbing rebirth. You have the sensible approach though, run it for a while and then replace with something newer and more efficient when you can.

I think there are various stories going round about those engines, I do know a lot turned up on the market in one go.

Keeping the engine is unfortunatly due to lack of funds, having spent my last penny buying the boat. Still its very quiet for a BIG two stroke and I'll be crusing at less than full speed most of the time with the kids in the boat.

Anyone know anything more about these engines?

As far as i know great engines. There was some talk about them in SB and R magazine about 6 months ago. The writer had had hit boat and engine stolen and was comparing the Johnson 150 with the ficht 150, a direct decendant or your engine.

I could have a look around for it if u want but the fuel and oil consumption figures would make you cry.

Ive got a friend runnig that engine on his BWM ds 18 and we've been out a few times with ours and his ribs. My fuel bill with a 60hp 2 stoke was £40 for a days ribbing. His was £100+

Its a real workhorse of an engine though. That one had already seen use as a Fastnet suport boat, a dive boat, a ski boat and a year or so as a leisure boat and its still working fine.

Stop

I've just brought it and you are going to make me cry, I'm hoping that crusing around at 3/4 throttle will save some fuel.

I'll see how it goes, and maybe swap the engine in sooner if things get too silly.

Take it out a few times and weigh up the costs.
if your used to big(old tech)2-strokes then it wont seem to bad to you.

Your right, don't want to worry too much. I've a few jobs to do before I use it, like fit the Hydraulic steering and a quick tidy up.

My Force 4 Flatacraft with 55HP Suzuki used to cost me about £15 for 3-4 hours skiing etc, so I'm prepared for a bit more than that.

Getting back to one of my original points, does anyone know anything about the availability of american size tow hitches, otherwise I'll need to mod the trailer with all its hydraulic brakes etc. Thats unless somebody wants the larger trailer.

If you dont push the loud stick beyond 3/4 throttle it helps a little (I say a little) with consumption. Best thing to do is to take plenty of mates out with you to split the fuel bills!

American balls - errm maybe try ordering one from somewhere in the US. Give google a go?
