I don't take the key with me, just pop it into a keysafe bolted onto the roof rack of my Defender.

Other option is to unclip key from rest of keyring and stuff it in the aquapac alongside my phone and the 20 quid note kept "in case of emergencies". takes up no space at all and quite light enough to hang round me neck.

So, you're afraid someone will track down the RIB, break in, take the lifejacket with door key, track down the vehicle, use the key, and ransack the truck?

A brick is so much faster...

No. Why did you assume that?

Some jack, or other thief, knowing the key is inside the vehicle, would break into it and use that key (with transponder) to steal the vehicle, while the owner is safely away at sea.

The surf boys have this key issue. Decent wetsuits have key pockets built-in, but electronic keys have stuffed that option. Even surfers have modern cars these days.
I notice dangly keysafe things hanging from under their '08 plate Golf TDIs.

Did I mention that Harry, the family Rottweiler, hates boats so generally waits in the car? He was cruelly mistreated as a pup and doesn't deal very well with strangers . . .
