New to RIBs Insurance?

Hi All

I'm a proud new owner of a Humber Attaque 5.3 (Clam Chowder)!

I want to get insurance sorted before I collect it later this week, so require recommendations for insurance?

Too many people to list, however I am with Porthcawl Insurance.

I have a good renewal price, but never needed to call on them

I use craftinsure, which seem reasonable but should probably check to see if anyone else is cheaper.

I am also with Porthcawl and have been so for about 10 years mostly with Humber destroyer 5.5
Just had renewal in £203 not too bad as paying bills goes.The thing is never had to make a claim.And last year had a service at a boat yard got talking and he was telling me the differculties in claiming
It is all hearsay but he told me Porthcawl proved differcult when making a claim so I would like to know any company that is should we say Fair
Can anyone recomend a company or warn to stay away from please tell all

I have now taken out a new policy with Alan & Thomas. for my searider.
After speaking to John Friendship I felt he offered a more personal service than the online only companies I had previously dealt with. Also I found it quick and simple to get all my questions and concerns dealt with instantly over the phone.
A little bit more than my previous premium but well worth it for the personal service and peace of mind this brings.
Worth a quote at renewal time.
And they have an office in Poole if I need to have a word in person

Maybe I will get a good discount now

Oh too late I already agreed the price

I've had similar experience dealing with Jim Bell at AJG International. Nice to deal with a human being and worth a few extra quid IMHO. Never had to make a claim though so the proof of the pudding and all that. AJG are a broker to I suspect the claim process is more to do with the insurer than anything.

He's quoted me £296 for the new boat, fully comp. I have not shopped this figure around so don't know how competitive it is.

I had a few quotes, went with Porthcawl in the end £98.80 "fully" comp.
Basic Boat wanted £81 third party that's with RYA discount!

Yes that's a good question! When you read the small print there seems to be a lot of "if and buts"!
The Rib is a Humber 5.3m value £3000. As I say lots of if and buts.

I'm paying around £320 for £45k agreed value with Mercia Marine. Includes boat, trailer, electronics. Very flexible cover. Cruising limits are Baltic to Brest & passages between, so no restrictions on how far offshore I can go. Had a claim last year & it wasn't brilliantly handled but we got there in the end, they have since changed their claims handling company which should improve service.
