New to Ribbing - Ribeye V Cobra - Page 2

Alf.... Does your layout still retain the aft bench or has all the seating been switched to jockey seats...I've been looking at buying a 755 but I'm still concerned that the bench seat is only suitable for a leisurely cruise. I really like the bow seating and storage arrangement on the Cobra's.

Mr G,

Yes I still have the rear bench which we find absolutely fine in moderate conditions, it has a reasonable profile to stop you being thrown about and isn't too wet. I've attached a couple of pics for info. We find the layout great although the jockeys take up a bit more space than the standard seat in a 7.55. The storage is good with space under the jockeys as usual accessed by four hatches.

I am 6'4'' as well, and for that reason usual jockeys do not really fit. And the issue of safe seating for small ones is relevant for me also.

The seating of my rib as shown on the pics
a) gives very safe seating for the kids. The feet do not hit the deck (yet), but for them its fine
recently I was out in a F6 gusting 7, wind against tide, with my 8yo girl. All she complained about was hunger
b) allows me to choose between seating and standing. The winged backrest gives very good support in both modes. Longest ride was 4hrs standing in BF6 - no issues with the back

As a job for the first winter, however, I consider renewing the upholstery with a stiffer foam, and to add 1.5'' thickness for the forward seats.

I appreciate that you have selected Ribeye & Cobra as brands that you are inerested purchasing, but could I suggest another brand that would fulfill your requirements - Stingher.

Hi if im the OP then no you are wrong , been out in a ribeye last Thursday and hoping to be trying a Cobra courtesy of a forum user this weekend. I still need to sell the princess first.

I posted an earlier question about being new to ribbing and expressed an interest in Ribeye and as they both met my needs, reading the replies and between the lines it appears that the Ribeye is the better boat in terms of build quality and there is a question mark over the Cobra.

Just a thought, Im 6'4" and err 24 stone with a 7.8 Ballistic, when I got it I simply removed a few screws securing the drivers jockey then slid it back till it was comfy for me and redrilled a few new holes to secure it in the new spot, it worked well for me and took 15 mins with a battery drill.

So their jockey's are just screwed to the deck, not planning to stay in the boat in a tight turn then

I would have a look around at various other makes before you commit to spending your £40k. There is plenty of choice out there. One thing I have learnt over years of RIB ownership is that anything is possible with regard console and seat layout. There are many RIB manufacturers out there that will accommodate you on bespoke design layouts that will fit your exact needs. You just need to take a little time to trial various seating combinations then match the layout of choice with the hull engine combo of choice.

I totally agree with Hightower. Have fun and hope you get what you want. I did the same and for me I bought the Ribeye. I do not regret it in any way as it suited me. The important thing is to buy what suits you. Once you have bought your RIB, you will find loads of new friends to give advice etc especially on Ribnet. More importantly, you join a family of Ribsters who just love going out on their RIB regardless of what it costs. Live for today, plan for tomorrrow!

Actually whilst that might sound like the usual "buy my rib" self interested advertising you expect on Ribnet/internet it might actually be one of the best suggestions in the thread... ...I'd certainly be giving Pete a ring to arrange a trial - it would be an interesting comparison to those you've already tried.

thank you for your kind offer of trying your Shearwater but i have my Princess to sell first and that could take until March or longer to sell so wouldnt want to waste your time. but again thank you.

No worries I'll probably keep it till then anyway - all paid up in the marina engine serviced etc ......and I love no speed limit in the Harbour !
