New set up !!

Finally found a 150hp optimax to upgrade from my tohatsu 80hp, can't wait to see how she goes, made a few upgrades and changes on the way, removed console and pods and re glassed them in, re-gelled the deck and reinforced the transom, cleaned built in tank all new fuel lines and filters plus a full new rewire !! I bought this off the forum a few months ago and loved the ride and handling so thought I would upgrade her for the season, any ideas on what sort of speed she will do !!! RIBase
Depends on the prop but I'd be disappointed if it wasn't in the low 40s

What breed is the rib anyway?

I have a tohatsu one design with a mariner 125 hp 2 STROKE. Gps went weird at 40mph but felt like it was still picking up speed. Just a word to the wise I think it is only rated to take up to 120hp single or 2 70hp

You have Velocity

I used one of these 10 years ago and can confirm they are rapid. You should see 50 knots on a good day and 40 knot cruise not a problem.

The back end isn't very planted in High speed turns and tends to skip which can either be fun or worrying depending on you state of mind! Either way it's controllable. You also need to be aware of this when you fly the boat as it really does need a straight helm on landing to avoid a hook.

The hull was made by Porter Brothers (very well im my opinion) for Tohatsu also branded as Porters and i believe they moulded them for Solent.

Your'e gonna have a lot of Fun in that boat Tim

I agree stu she's a bit of an animal in the rough, I really need to change the seating because nearly 60mph on jockeys is no good !! I was really doing everything to hold on to her, but I've had and driven a lot of ribs and I can easily say she is the best handling and ride I've had !! I just need some ideas on seats that hold you in your position and don't look out of place !! Also great vid of your boat

Hi Tim
In one of your later posts you say this has a 175 ltr built in tank, Did you change it from the standard 160 ltr tank ?
I also sent you a pm but you may have missed it. I asked if you new what the fuel consumption was with this setup ?.
Lee

Tim I had a 150 opti on our phantom 20 and we had 63 mph GPS, this was with a 25pitch high five prop, the optimax was very fuel efficient for a V6 however expensive parts can fail especially direct injectors and the compressor etc. Have you got the smartcraft gauges hooked up ?
