New Seat for Jockey

I thought it was time I started a new thread as things are a little quiet and so that PD and the rest of his gang can have a go at me and tell me that what I am proposing is tantamount to murder or indeed having two spoons of sugar in ones tea.

My Jockey seat which is an Outhill has seen better days and even the ply base is starting to delaminate. Buying a new original seems impossible, I have therefore made a new ply base and intend to take it to a little place near me to get it upholstered taking the old one as a pattern.

I like to do as much as I can myself but I don't think I will be much good at upholstery. Has anyone on here given it a go themselves and if so was it easier or harder than you thought.

I would like to finish up with a reasonable match to the original which is the only jockey seat on the boat.

Take the old cover off, unpick everything and use as a template. Might be cheaper in long run to a company like marinetrim. Send your cover off to them

Outrageous - they'll have padded the job with laminated timber, or worse - GRP bases, likely sticking the arm in with two layers of different resistance foam - maybe even closed reticulation foam to reduce water absorption, potentially putting a hat on the job by double bagging the foam in a plastic membrane before covering it.

Robbers.

Yes, there is a whole lot more to building a quality marine seat than meets the eye ............... I thought £157 was a bout right ......

Might be worth going direct to the manufacturer; Cheeta marine on the IoW owns outhill these days. That said Outhill stuff has always been very expensive.

Well I had the call from the Upholsterer today that my seat was done. Over I went and gave him £60 we had a nice chat about the world and most things in it and I came away with a new seat that I am absolutely chuffed with
