Hi Martini
Hope you are doing well. I am a bit surprised with your post. I expected more thought from you. However, the power of the media does overcome us all occasionally.
Yes, their are drug wars in Mexico, fortunately not within 300 miles of where I live( border towns only) and they are only killing each other, which is good.
To put it in perspective: there are at least that many drug related killings in the USA EVERY WEEK. The media just like to make press out of the hanging from a bridge thing. Dead is dead.
Wake up and smell the roses before it is too late, and stop believing the BS governments, TV, and and newspapers tell you. Otherwise, you will end up being an average UK dumbass, which I know you are not.
Regards T.

Hi Limey- I'm doing well thanks
Although it does sadden me to have to inform you it appears you've lost your british sense of humour old bean
I was sure that most people realise that Mexico is a big place and you're highly unlikely to come to any harm unless you're looking for it, much as in the UK no doubt.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments about the press though, the damage they're capable of doing is staggering.

Here on our little island, we firearm enthusiasts are currently under threat yet again, it appears the local rag have decided we shouldn't have guns and over the last week or so have been taking delight in a spot of scaremongering. Reporting "facts" like gun ownership is 3 times that in the UK (the UK don't include air powered guns or shotguns in their statistics - we do). Using phrases like "military grade weapons" and "machine guns" to describe firearms that are held on licence (fully auto's are completely banned). And what is a sniper rifle anyway? A rifle thats in the hands of a sniper for the purposes of sniping as far as I'm concerned, still, sounds good anyway. Almost as bad as our (thankfully now retired) police chief claiming that we own single shot machine guns :non ono:

Amazing that with all these guns being waved around, the police have never shot a single round in anger and the last time anyone got shot here was probably 30 years ago

So, apologies for using the same worthless kind of headline to describe your current home, I was just taking the opportunity to highlight the utter sh**e the media come out with to paint any picture they like

Hey Martini
Thanks for your response.
Yes, Mexico is a big country. Fortunatey I live in a small town of 3000, which is often called " a small drinking town with a fishing problem". Go to google earth and find Sea of Cortez, San Carlos. This is about the most perfect boating area you can imagine.
I have lived here for 5 years and there has been one murder and that was an out of towner and it was drug related.
I feel your pain on the gun restriction issues. I had to sell 50 guns before I moved to Mexico; including a 50 bmg target rifle. However i have just got permits for two shotguns for bird hunting. I am happy. I also have a contact for getting a permit for a 308 for metalic sillouette. There is a superb outdoor range about 1 hour drive. Air condition club house, electirically reset targets, 3 trap ranges 1 sporting clays, skeet range , pistol range , smallbore range etc, etc, Who would have thunk in Mexico? membership cost is about 300 quid per year.
Hope your new hard boat project turns out well.
regards T.
