new boat not a rib
You lot will throw me out now I expect .
Just bought a new boat and its not got any tubes .
Ill not say any more as I can feel interest waining allready , but it does have 90 etek .
having trawled the boatshow and eveywhere else for suitable rib that fitted my needs in size etc , it just wasn't possible to find it in a rib .

Oh I was expecting some coments likie that . hope we don't sink 
In the size and power i wanted there simply wasn't enough space or storage on any ribs . that is 5.5m max 100 hp .
Shelter was also an issue , the family were only interested on sunny days as they just froze and moaned in anything but sunshine .
I wanted to sit side by side not in line as you do in smaller ribs on jockey seats .
The boat I have bought is a seamark 550 sc with a 90 etec .
I tried a demmo boat in the solent at the weekend with a 75 etec and was impressed with its performance , handling and dry ride , so hopefully the 90 will be even better .
It has a side consul with nice screen and small cuddy underneath , with enough room to store all the kit and get the kids changed out of the wind .
Hope it does what i think it will

You don't need to say sorry, we all bought boats to forfill our needs...
My friends have one of those rinker ski boat things and to be fair you are far more protected from the elements than most ribs. My wife really like it untill we followed it home in a force 5 following sea.... it was not pretty.
SO have fun in your new boat.....

For me, one of the best things about RIB's as far as kids are concerned is that there is almost nothing for them to hurt themselves on - it's like one big bouncy castle.
If you're out in a bit of chop, that's worth having I reckon.
Also, that aluminium boat that the link above shows weighs 720kg, quite a bit more than the same size RIB methinks.
It seems that many of the UK ribs go for the inline jockey seat arrangement, but there are other manufacturers that make ribs in a more family friendly way, with bench seats and 'lounging' areas.

Yes Ill let you know how we get on with it .
It was a much better ride than my valiant when i tested it and it was pleasant to drive .
Time will tell , one thing i do know is that the family are exited about going boating for a change .
I agree with the thoughts on the soft tubes of a rib being kid safe and having hired a leisure rib on holiday bench seats near the stern would be my choice for a family boat . On jockey seats kids can't touch the floor they get uncomfy and feel insecure
Its horses for courses i guess .

Ian I think it looks like a good choice for the family!
We ended up with some thing very similar to you & the hole family love it & if it gets windy & the spray or rain start we just put the roof up!
We have used it much more because it offers us protection from the elements that the rib never could & the kids love the little cabin!
Hope you enjoy it as much as we do ours.

Nice boat - with that cover and cuddy I would get the wife out as well!
I like the idea of the high sides for keeping the kids in as well. Cannot buy one though as she thinks having a sailing dinghy & rib is excessive already - and i enjoy both too much to get rid of either!!

I would like to keep the SIB or swap it for a zap cat, but its gone in px for the new boat .

Talking of tenders , I really liked those inflatable sailboard/towable things I saw the boatshow .
If I didn't allready have a big Biscuit/donut and an inflatable canoe i would have bought one . The kids would never get bored with it and fun for adults too .
I can't find the name anywhere but have a feeling they are made by avon
