Well done

Richard

Thanks for posting the various pictures and involving us in you new Rib purchase. It looks great.

How did you choose the make\spec of the trailer - a 6.2m boat is at overlap point for suitability for a 2 or 4 wheel trailer?

The Consol is the same os on my Humber - it was mentioned that it was from Outhill, I need a higher sceen and handrail, Does the handrail appear strong enough as there is lots of leverage from high up? tel number for outhill?

What size tank did you specify is it underfloor?

Good to see a RIB being used at all times of year

Paul

Hi Paul,

The trailer is a 2 wheel and is a Hall Mark Rollercoaster 3.5. The Outhill Console is fine the grab rail seemed well positioned and did not flex when held onto to brace yourself. I had a stainless steel tank made up especially to fit the consule base and have a 28 gallon capacity.

We managed 35 knotts without much problem although I will be changing the prop for a larger one as belive I should be able to get more top end speed, plus also taking the Shark Fins off the engine as we had too much lift.

Everything performed as it should on the 2 Days and the Saturday Night that we went out like mad fools in the sleet. We think it was probalbly about -4/5 deg with the wind chill. But a Very enjoyable weekend was had by all!!

Outhills number is 01527 853798.... good luck

Richard,
Check the tyres on the trailer, Hallmark normally fit 3 ply tyres which recommend a maximum weight of 750kgs when the trailer is designed to take twice that weight. I upgraded mine immediately to 6 ply van tyres which give added safety. When the boat has a full tank of fuel and gear for cruising the tyres that were fitted to the trailer when new were not suitable as I would have exceeded the tyre weight limit.

Hi Brian,

Yes likewise good to meet up with you too, always good to put a face to a name. I was very pleased with the way the weekend went, we were out all day on Saturday and evening till about 9.30pm, and it was bloody cold, we reckon about -4 deg. Then out again Sunday all day. Clocked up about 18hrs over the weekend.

We got 35 knotts through Poole Harbour, although with a larger Prop which is being sorted this week hope to get more top end. Also taking off the Sahrk Fins on the outboard as seemed to have too much lift out of the water.

It was very useful to have Simon Hawkins onboard, having someone who is an Advanced Chief Instructor you cannot get a more qualified person to show you how to handle a Rib. He certainly taught me a thing or two about handling a Rib and I certainly got the best out of my Rib on the weekend.

Paul Glatzel came out on Saturday afternoon and took some shots of my Rib on the water so hopefully will post some stunning action shots.

So all round a fantastic weekend, and a BIG THANK YOU TO Simon Hawkins and Paul Glatzel.....

Thankyou Richard for the comments. It was a good weekend and hopefully it will pay off for you on the 1st April. Wehn I get my new boat I shall give you a shout and I shall take you out in some rough water around the Needles and give you a few tips in rough water handling.
