New and looking for advice

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well.

I am new to the forum. I am looking to pick your brains as to suitable options for myself, I am after a rib that I can take some friends out on and cruise around and one that can also take some rough weather (ex lifeboat helmsman).

I would like a rib that is:

Around 5m is length +/-
Preferably 60hp+
capable of 25+ knots
The budget of £6500 (or cheaper

)

What would you guys recommend.

Plenty of ex dive ribs meet the criteria Humber’s SR5.4s, tornados few more just stay away from the leisure market type stuff stick with orange tubes and jockey seats.

Its easy to drop into that how it used to be in the good old days but buying annything 20 years old to take friends on a sea voyage may be a little suspect in my opinion , you say you are an ex lifeboat helmsman so your going to be preety weather swithched on ,your not planning to show your friends how it used to be on a shout in any weather i suspect , many of the leisure availiable ribs are great value for money ,engines are all the same anyway ,if its a 2008 mariner 4 stroke it dont matter what its on it doesnt change its value ,same with a poor codition trailer ,dont matter whats sitting on it ,20 year old electronics are worth nothing as it would poss be worth keeping a bit back for a decent gps /sonar and up to date vhf , just my opinion but lots of guys on here are real purists (and i have total respect for that ) but if thats what you are planning then my post is rubbish , but i have a hunch that it may be just a bit of safe adventure and fun you are looking for , have seen a couple of xpro type boats one in beccles i think and there was one in lowestoft , bid em hard if they wanted 10k when the sun was out ,bid 6k when the season has peaked ,be a hard sell after the 1st of august i reckon

Hey, thank you for all the advice. The sea rider in this thread doesn't really look like the boat for me but I have seen an ex RN searider which looks interesting! No not looking to scare my friends or show them what a boat can do in heavy swells but I do like rough conditions and playing in the waves :P

Having owned two 5.4 sea riders myself I still don’t know what people see in them. You can do much better, Humber ocean pro / destroyer (build quality aside) Delta, Ribcraft etc are all far better boats than the old “5.4 chinerider” as we call it.

Ribcraft 4.8 commercial. Rated for 75hp, but 60hp seems to be well suited.

Had mine since 2010 and it does everything I ask of it, whether North Sea rough chop or Atlantic swells. Also right size if your single handed launching and retrieving, but be warned, this is not a light boat.

£6,500 might be lower end of budget for a decent example, but hypalon tubes are well made. plus you can customise with genuine Ribcraft A-frame, wing-back jockey seats and flow-coat the deck.

Be prepared to travel when one comes up.

no agreed orwell boy but I’d pay 5.5-6k for that max. The market currently is silly. October / November is the time to buy...
