New 13m RIB in Jersey

http://www.thisisjersey.com/news/sho...ticleID=101618

You cant see in this picture but it has 4,yes 4 300hp suzuki's on the back
Apparently it was built in Australia and completed in Jersey but I've heard previously that it was an aluminium flat pack from South Africa put together in Wales, probably at Ocean Dynamics I guess.

I believe it is going to be on show at the 1st Jersey Boat Show being held in May

Had a closer look today at the local marina.

A very impressive craft with a definite functional design. Build quality and finish did appear very good compared to other ali products.

However, I am sure the owner has in his own mind the intentions for its use but I cannot see where it will really compete at an estimated 150000 price.

It would be limited for diving, accomodation will be compact and dark, ladder mounted on rear of frame astern of engines means clambering aground frame to get aboard after a nice swim, 4 300Hp suzi's will no doubt be relatively thirsty, eating area exposed to elements in questionable british weather, reportably able to put a quad bike or 4 motorcycles on foredeck (no crane on vessel so loading will be an issue) Helm position is still open to elements, which, should be raised enough to keep any chop out will not protect from rain.

I think if you want an A-B vessel for 6 - 8 persons there are more appropriate vessels and if you want something to go cruising on, again there are more appropriate vessels.

Will be interesting to see how far and how much use it gets this summer.

I've been meaning to go have a look myself. I'm struggling to find a point to it as well. A rib that size with accomodation might be useful for serious offshore cruising in comfort and safety. But a rough estimate in my head suggests that to cross the channel from Jersey for example, with a safety margin you would need to carry around 1000 litres of fuel! Does it even carry 1000 litres?
I suppose if you've just bought a rib for 150k you wont be that bothered that you just paid 2500 for fuel for the round trip. Would you??

Rumour has it that it only managed 40mph in it's sea trials!
