Need a decent set of pics of a RIB for a project! - Page 2

Just a quick update on the progress of the project. Spent some time researching radio control boats, boat a couple of books and spent some time talking to the people in the local model shop.

I'm now about to start getting the hull plans into a CAD package ready for printing out at actual size (once I've decided on a scale), then I'll start work on building a wooden hull to make the mould from. The proper hulls are then going to be fibreglass. The tubes are most likely going to be mountain bike inner tubes and shall remain fully functional to add to the realism (they'll be air filled, providing I can find a way of keeping the valve out of the way but accessible)!

The electrics are also pretty much worked out, are most definately the most expensive part of the project, so this is going to take some saving.

Once construction starts, I'll put photos in the gallery.

Excellent model and it goes like a bat out of hell.

Thing is Dirk, I want a working scale model of the SoC, not a floating jet. Also want to build it myself for the fun of it.

And yeah, just remove the "." to fix it.

How about quarter scale, then you wouldn't have to save up for a Sib!

Found a company that makes Z drives for model boats, so I won't be stuck using propshaft and rudder. It's going to be this that dictates the scale, as it sticks out about 8cm from the transom.

Got the wood needed to build the prototype hull, so construction is going to start on that this weekend. If it turns out well, I'll then make a mould from that hull, otherwise I'll build a new one to make the mould from.
