More than a minute dry run...bet also the engine was pretty hot in some spots.

Understand that there is suction from the ship, but it looked like the rib turned against it?
Is that the correct way to do it, what would hapen if they instead had steered slightly away from the main ship?

Nice video anyway.

My guess would be that turning away would be tough. You'd only get a shallow angle.

Turning in with the bow pressed on the ship should allow the stern to pivot out until far enough clear to be able to steer away?

Though that's got to be tough whilst the ship is pulling you forward.

you should come off the boat in reverse if you can. The shape of the boat makes detachment so much easier that way.

You also have to keep away from the choppy water generated by the ships prop/thruster/Kort,s nozzle as that is aerated and you don't get such good bouyancy or drive in that water.

For me the best way is to come off the ship is in reverse with a painter (bow rope) attached and release when you have a good angle and distance for getting safely away. Say 5 metres and 40 degrees

The ship pulling you forward will help this process.

The water line came off at 2:27 and the leg was in the water by 2:33 so the impeller was fine as the muffs would have had water still in the lines from the a-frame brackets down to the leg.

The impeller was never out of water

Checked the video again as slightly bigger format.... I was totally wrong

should have checked more carefully before commenting.

Yep, rechecked on large monitor and you're spot on. Now booked myself into Specsavers....

It was still a shambles though!

Not the best example of an RN sea boat launch as the coxswain made a meal of that and was close to digging in and rolling over. It's not the easiest thing to do as you get sucked against the ship. I have had a few howlers myself and doing it at night can make your bum like a rabbits nose.

That engine is fitted with an umbilical system for launching. The hose pipe connects to the engine and pulls off when they pull away. I have fitted hundreds of them!!!
