Navy RIB's - what do they use ?

Does anyone know what RIB's the navy uses. (or special forces) ??

A friend of mine who works for the Army told me that he had been on training sessions with the Navy and claimed their boats had covers on. These were angled to bounce radar off to help with disguising the signal.

The when he looked at my boat he said the RIB's he went on also had hydrofoils to like mine to give them speed and stability.

Sounds a bit James Bond to me, but I really have no idea.

I googled it and all I found were examples of normal RIBS.

Funnily enough, they do.

Manufactured in North Wales sporting twin Roll-Royce jets, Ullmann seats and a gunnery position immediately ahead of console.

Impressive sight watching them take these on acceptance testing round Holyhead Bay a couple of years ago.

Ah, those look a bit more "Stealth", but not hydrofoils.

Those must be what he did his training on then. He did mention the suspension seats being the same as mine.

Im ex-navy and left in 2001....we had Pacific 22's and Avon Seariders as seaboats...those stealthy things will only be used by SBS....and certainly no hydrofoils!....Its very common though for old sea dogs in the RN to get the army on a bite....its too easy!

He's talking bollocks about having angles on ribs to bounce radar off

Although he new destroyers like daring, diamond have an almost enclosed upper deck and lots of flat angled sides to reduce the radar signature. As they reckon these boats only show up as a boat the size of a trawler not a massive destroyer.

The navy operate with Atlantics, seariders Arctics etc etc but a lot of them now are inboard diesels with jet drives and are crap.

The Royal Marines have the ORCS which have the twin rolls Royce jet drives that have sometimes higher sides which may be confused with anti radar but all these are is armour for small arm firearms and low calibre rifles.

But are still no match for the older rigid raider mk3 as the mk3 is a lot faster but the Orc is designed as a offshore raiding craft and is a lot better sea boat but crap as a landing craft which the boot necks insist on using them for all the bloody time.

Then you have the sbs which have the massive ribs with twin 250/300's on the back of there ribs and they have also have a assortment of other toys as well

The problem is that the navy guys speak a lot of bull a hell of a lot of the time most of them don't have a clue how to tie a reef knot let alone drive a boat.

Every one thinks that if you're in the navy you must know everything about boats which is rubbish.

Jobs in the navy are just like land based jobs but just happen to be done on a boat.

And yes I have a lot of personal experience on the subject as I have to work with this lot all the time as I'm part of the Army's Maritime contingent and have to carry out exercises with the navy and marines all the time.

And just let's say it can be quite entertaining a hell of a lot of the time but me and my guys also cock up as well. LOL

Yep, we like to remind them we are Senior Service and also we get paid more than an infantryman.....probably cos we dont just need to know how to run towards bullets!

That's funny seeing as the infantry are on the higher band of the army pay scales so get paid the same as you navy cake or in most cases get paid more seeing as they are willing to do a job worth doing instead of mincing around in flares in a 5 year old boys sailors uniform

Slightly off-thread, but did the SBS bin their 'very slender vessels'? They always looked a potent craft.

Only what a dirty civvy was told , but if you are talking about the wave piercers yes, due to insufficient load carrying capability. I was also told that there was an 'incident'.

Go on then, i'm bored and so i'll bite.... "they operate with..." Atlantics (didn't realise they used Atlantics), Seariders and Arctics (outboards) so you must mean Pacifics (?) with inboard diesels and Jets.....but why crap?

On our Pac 24 I find the Jet very manouverable, the diesel perfectly powerful (440HP), the hull very /extremely capable....and whilst it will only do 35 knots, will do close to that through most stuff.... what's not to like
