My terms are payment on completion, still have to wait two months in some cases.

One nice thing about island life though, sooner or later they will need something doing in a hurry.

14 days dont mean a thing, in this day and age nearly everybody expects 30 days, i would say that you were lucky that you could get anybody too pay you in 14 days and you can have a nice long break away from working and maybe unlucky in as much i doubt the bloke will use you again for repairs, cummins mercruiser have lost nearly every invoice i have given them, but you have to give them benefit otherwise in quick time you wont have any work, it's just something that you have to put up with sometimes

You're already there....all UK government departments have been told that payments must be made within 10 days of recieving invoicing due to the current financial problems.

Not sure when the JFDI will be revoked, if it ever will be!

Shame local authorites have not joined in, we hav several soton and hants council customers and they generally take about 3 months to pay

I tried something similar a few years back, all my advertised prices were "cash prices" and anyone paying on invoice was billed the full RRP with a 10% discount for paying within 14 days.

It worked to an extent, people would pay after about 21 days but the discounted amount leaving me to quibble over the date they wrote/sent the cheque etc etc.

My solution now is to to break jobs and orders up into smaller morsels, once the first part is paid for then and only then do I get on with the second part. Obviously this does not work in every scenario but then again there are some customers who pay on the nose.

Most local car repair garages, including the bigger franchises will not release your car until the work is paid for. Sad that the lack of trust has gone, but I bet it ensures prompt payment.
