My Situation

Hi, long time since ive spoken on here..
Anyway, basically its dads birthday soon , and i was thinking of booking him up a VHF radio course as he was planning on taking it this year.As far as ive looked the price tends to be about 100pounds,am i on the right tracks?
I want it to be:
fairly cheap and fairly close to southampton

Can anyone recommend anywhere?
Thanks
Hannah

I am sure someone on here will do you a good deal but if not try your local colleges - they often do the course quite cheap.

Hannah, the GAFIRS do training courses down at Lee-on-Solent. The price is very resonable (£60 two years ago) and goes toward the running of Lifeboat Ops in the Solent area. You also get to have a guided tour of the Station and a little nose in the control room to boot. Meal is included too.

Have a look here for contact details and to see what it's all about.

Hi Hannah

Gaffirs is a great place to do a VHF course and funds return to the club .

If you look on the new and improved RYA website www.rya.org.uk you can find a list of schools in your area offering VHF .Prices will vary but a great birthday present for your dad. The RYA now run a voucher scheme where you can cash them in against a course of your choice this may be another option open to you.
Hope this helps.

You shouldnt pay any more than £60 for a VHF course in my opinion - and codprawn is right - during the winter colledges usually run the course and it can be as chaep as £20... (down here in cornwall anyway)

Anything in Cornwall should be free in the winter to make up for the fact that we can't can't go anywhere in the summer , if you don't have a boat just as well stay home
