Mouldy dry suit

Just pulled my Ravenspring dry suit from a wardrobe and dumfounded to find half of one side of it with mould on it The wardrobe is dry, so I can only assume the salt water wasnt washed off properly when last used some months ago. Some questions ! does the growth of mould affect the suits breathability ? (as its not neoprene and a one way membrane), and their site says to use lux flakes or similar to wash which is fine, but should I add a couple of drops of domestos or similar to make sure any mould is killed?

If it's a built in wardrobe on the side of an outside wall then that's the cause of the problem especially if it full, also a hung up dry suit would dry anyway.

I would not use bleach but put it in the washing machine and add a tiny weeny bit of washing liquid and see how that goes, then re - proof it.

p.s I forgot to add... if it's mildew it's fooked.

We hose ours off when wearing them wouldn't use washing machine

Aye they say not to use the washing machine, and yes the wardrobe does have an out side wall , but its in my bedroom .... is the wife giving off too much heat

I think that you will need some sort of detergent to get rid of the mold (not bleach) and yes it does say not to use a washing machine for your dry suit but mine is coming up to 7 years old now and I always put mine in on a rinse only and it still does it's job.

Well I've washed it in mild soap as they say to do and scrubbed the areas of mould and dried it... What a pain it is to do with attached boots anyway .. There are still light white blemishes where the main mould spots were down the right arm and main body .. Any suggestions ? Or do I accept I can't get it back to as new condition and just use it ? My worry is that if mould got on it, it will affect its one way membrane system ?

Get in the water with it on and see how wet you get

I doubt it's going to be a massive issue as long as it doesn't leak.

Personally, I wouldn't worry.

My breathable waders have had mould on them in the past, its never impaired their ability to keep me dry.

As for the white bits, my drysuit is covered in white patches from the talc

The ravenspring is a permeable membrane suit though so that's why I was concerned , the fabric is very thin . I guess Nos is right .. Just try it and see !

OK suit is sorted and dry . .. whats the preferred lube for zips these days ?

I agree with beeswax I bought a second hand suit with a stuck zipper after trying all sorts it was the beeswax that finally got it moving again and kept it moving not had any problems since

Vanish Oxygen stuff might sort ur white bits. Certainly fixed mildew on a buoyancy aid for me...
