I’m a student from Norway, who currently study marketing at Newcastle University. I’m doing a market environment research about Rib’s in the UK. What do you guy’s recon to be the most important Rib brands in the UK?
In Norway it`s Zodiac, Bombard Avon and Tonado

I guess you may need to clarify what you mean by important.
From who's perspective? Commercial or leisure? And so on...

Is difficult to tell really. Zodiacs are well known but not popular, so are the BOMBARDS and other makes.

To get data that is related to sales volume and correlate it to the success or not of the advertising campaigns of each individual make it will be impossible as make X probably says that they sell 100 RIBs per year and in reality they sell 5-10 max and so on.

There is a lot of RIB make and makers that are advertised in the UK such as:
Scorpion
RIBEye
RIBTEC
Prosport
Humber
Watercraft
Osprey
Cobra
X-RIB
Valiant
Avon

and a lot more than those.

I'm sure people in this forum will chip in to tell you names of other makes that I have most likely forgotten.

From a dive RIB point of view the most popular makes, in that most clubs and individuals I know have them, are
Humber
Osprey
Northcraft and
Tornado
It really depends on what you mean by the most popular, the most common single RIB type that you see nowadays is the Avon 4m, I bet that they don't sell many now but over the years a lot have been built and they last.
I reckon the most common single RIB manufacturer has to be Humber or Avon in sheer numbers built overall, but stand willing to be corrected?

I'm truely disappointed that you have forgotten the king of all RIB makes, that being Gemini !!

I'm sure the Jackeens will have issue with this too !!

Ribcraft

Ribcraft are a RIB company, making and selling to/for the UK leisure market. Although they are predominantly a commercial company, more and more Ribcrafts are used as leisure boats due to their high build quality and seakeeping. Hope that helps!

There is nothing to forgive seeing as you forgot your own boat too!!

You are right though, there are 100's of makes around.

Working out what make is the best really seems to come down to individual preference Fredrik.

Good luck with your quest and let us know your findings.

Although not selling to the public anymore Delta has a long pedigree from the early days. Also Halmatic are in the same boat ( please excuse the pun )

I think one way of finding out which are the most poular ribs in te UK is to call manufacturers and ask them what there production capacity is and how long the delivery time. If you do that I think you'll find in the leisure market that Ribcraft and Scorpion are up there.

Commercial Avon, Halmatic, Delta and Ocean dynamics

Imported boats I think the Gemini's take some beating but I've sen a nice boat from france called a Magnum

If you want a boat that's ffff fast then Phantome Evo's and if you can afford it a MarkPascoe Limited has got to be the ultimate machine.

there are aot of other good boats out there but I think these names are about the most popular

All in all however I think the most desired RIB is a Scorpion

too many!

As you have found, the task you are about to undertake will be exhausting. Why not limit your research to the US of A, where the numbers are far, far less. For a marketing research exercise, it may be just as rewarding and far more managable. Good luck, at any rate. john
