Moorings/Anchorages?

Hi, is there an easy way to find permanent moorings/anchorages for a boat? To save from having to be always towing it?

Does keeping it anchored up seriously reduce its lifespan though?

You can keep it on a mooring but you will probably need to to antifoul the bottom to stop weed growth and you will, ideally, need to to check on her every couple of days.

Did you have a harbour in mind?

Also, some insurance companies are a little twitchy about having RIBs left on moorings. Seemed to increase the premium considerably.

I'd not be able to go check on it _that_ often unfortunately.

Specific harbour - I'm open to suggestions. I'm based pretty centrally in Devon. Nearest obvious ones to me are Exmouth and Barnstaple/Bideford. Any suggestions?

Another solution would be to find an on-shore storage facility, preferably under cover.

That way, it will be looked after and secure and you should be able to ring up the day before you want to use her and ask them to launch and ready her for your arrival.

Yes, probably, but you are always going to pay a premium for peace of mind and convenience. But, you may end up using your RIB more.

You have to be a bit more specific about what you want!

You're in a good area for boat moorings.... most are much cheaper than the Solent area, but you need local knowledge. Go down to a harbour you like the look of and ask the harbourmaster or a boat yard what the options are. You've got to start somewhere, we can't do it for you!

Try Yacht haven Quay in Plymouth. It's still in the early stages of development, not cheap but they offer a good service.

That Plymouth operation looks amazing. Cheers for that. Like you say it's not cheap but it solves a lot of problems in one fell swoop.

It would seem to vary according to area - my additional premium for using a swinging mooring from 1/4 to 1/10 was in the region of GBP0.00

But then I'm nowhere near the Isle of Wight

you can get fore and aft moorings in the rivers round Plymouth.
If you want I can ask in the yard I use, but you'd need a tender and to anti-foul it. The Tamar is a high fouling area even 3 year old copperbot is not working as it was, will need to rub it down a bit to expose some more copper !

I live 10 min walk from Yacht Haven Quay. But have move the rib to new storage. They may have room it is app £50 per mouth for a 6 mt rib and is next to a slip way and slip is FREE .If you want more info send me a M.P with a number to ring you. good luck
