Mooring/storing and self launching Isle of Wight

I am looking for somewhere to keep my Rib on the IOW. Cowes/Ryde area if possible, but would consider other places. I would prefer to have it in the water but some sort of storage and self launch would be acceptable. I am at the moment trying to purchase a property on the Island.

I have emailed both Ryde and Cowes Harbours. Ryde have replied explaining that they have a long waiting list and I am waiting for Cowes to reply but expect the same.

Does anybody have any suggestions. I would welcome tephone numbers or email addresses of any possible places.

Try
Bembridge Outboards - Jim Robinson
Attrils Bembridge - Jill
AA Coombes - Bill Mitchell
BMS Bembridge
Brading Haven Yacht Club (membership to pay)

All are good - access +/- 3hrs, good safe harbour. Moorings not too expensive if you are local!

Regards

Paul

Thank you for the contact numbers etc. I will be chasing round the Island on Friday and Saturday looking at properties and hopefully following up on the contacts.

In following up some of the contacts I have been told that there is the possibility of a mooring that dries out to mud 1.5 hours either side of low water. Does anybody have experience of a Rib on this type of mooring.

Roy hi,

Yes Old Spice dries out for an hour on very low water springs sitting on a bed of soft mud in Portsmouth harbour. The hull and stern drive create a hollow in the mud.

She is antifouled with a hard antifouling so a couple of times a year I don the wet suit and snorkel and give the bottom a quick wipe with a green kitchen scrubber which lifts of the slime and brown algie.

I would inspect the proposed moorings at low water springs by eye or Hw with a snorkel for any signs of rocks or tesco shopping trolleys and take it from there.

Pete
