MOB from Yacht - Yacht calls Jewsons!

BBC News - Overboard yachtsman saved by call to Crediton Jewsons

I'm confused... ...sounds like the Yacht was well equiped. So why wouldn't he slide the red cover off the magic button press it, scroll to MOB and hold the button down. Possition sent. Problem sent.

But even more so I'm confused - I thought English was the official language used by all coastguards for VHF comms along the Channel.

You'd think that. However, you'd be surprised how many boats with VHF don't have DSC, or worse, have DSC but don't have an MMSI programmed (so it won't function). A lot, is the answer, BTW.

English is the language world wide! Mayday is from the french word M'aidez
