Mike Ring Ribs & Water Damage

Hi everyone, we have an 8.6m Cobra which we love but we’ve always been interested in having a cabin - if only to stop my wife complaining about the toilet arrangements

We’ve seen this boat for sale:
Ring Commander Cabin - MCC Marine

The broker hasn’t been very responsive (to say the least) but we understand there has been some water damage to the boat. I’d be really interested in hearing peoples’ thoughts on the boat generally - and more importantly on water damage, especially if it turns out she’s sunk vs. been sat out in a bit of rain! “Water damage” covers a multitude of sins...

Thanks!!

Adam

The man who's supposed to be selling it, doesn't want to sell it to you...

I'd take that as a Sign.

"Water damage" does not mean (as you surmise) getting an inch of rainwater on the deck. It means the electrics and possibly the engines have been submerged.

I wouldn't buy that boat simply based on the typos in the ad. The broker hasn't a clue.

If I had 50k burning a hole in my pocket I certainly wouldn't be spending it on a boat that had 'water damage', minor or otherwise.

I can imagine your wife's face when you tell her you've spent £50k on a second-hand boat and just wait until she sees the toilet.

Its an expensive loo - better to treat the wife like a child on a long trip and insist she goes to the loo at every stop. Failing that leave her at home! Good luck but and be cautious of water damage!

I think you'll find that the "Varados" are an exceptional engine, not like the Verados that sound like someone tipping a bag of gravel into a metal dustbin[emoji6]

Excellent replies everyone - thanks! Always good to have a sanity (sanitary??) check when it comes to boats as the risk is heart rules the head (s) - I’ve done it again

And brokers should invest in a good spell checker

It’s highly possible mike would know it’s history. Worth a call.

I reckon quite a few boats have had some form of water damage Rain water, sunk a bit, a drain that stuck open maybe. Without clarification you have no idea. My old scorpion flooded itself upto the top of the battery, on land. The bilge pump stopped working. I dried the electrics, fixed the bilge and used a spray that I used to clean mobile phones that had been for a swim, and it never had an issue. If however it was sunk by the needles for 3 months, it’s a different story.
