Menai Straits

Hi all, heading down to the Menai Straits for the first time this weekend (Friday to Monday), i've had a read of some of the old posts and info I can find.

Is the best launching still under the bridge? We're staying near Caernarfon. Hoping to head out to Puffin Island, and maybe get a little fishing in. Also just generally taking a look around.

If anyones got any comments or tips they'd be more than welcomed!

Thanks

Tom

The best launch (imho) is with Chris at Ty Calch, just outside Caernavon

Chris is definitely not launching.

The slip at Menai bridge is good at all tides.

Hi guys, yes, sorry we close now for the winters. There is simply not enough activity to make it viable, and the tractors suffer terribly with the infrequent use.
If anyone wants to use our slipway during the winter months, that's fine, (there's no charge!)
Just give us a bell on 07917859345 and I'll advise you whereabouts on the beach to launch etc depending on the tide that day.
Regards Chris.

HW Menai--Fri 09.24 Sat 10.10 Sun 10.53
The Range is about 6 metres. You will launch OK at Menai Slipway
Don't be too late recovering as the last 1/3 rd of the slip it is 'Slippey' at the mo
Today's forecast for the Strait for the weekend is SW 16 MPH gusting 30 generally
So don't try Caernarfon Bar
You will be ok to leave your trailer on the trailer park next to the slip. Depending on the actuall wind direction on the day and the atmospheric presssure some water may just flood on to the trailer park so park the car somewhere else just in case!

Tough launch at anything other than high tide without the "Leylandini".

Swellies is not so bad with plenty of water in it
However, you are correct to be cautious
I have an hour or so spare in the Morning if you want a bit of local knowledge etc
Shame if you don't have some fun coming all the way from Sheffield
I have two nephews there and My Sister is moving there. Tried to persuade Her not to
