There are only two Standard Ports for Wales tother is Milford Haven
Menai tides are earlier than Holyhead
Sunday HW Menai Bridge is 27 mins before Holyhead
So according to Secondary Port calculations slack water at Menai will be 10.51 hours
The reason 'slack' occurs around about an hour or so before the HW is the way the tidal streams flow in in Liverpool Bay and St George's Channel
The 'Nothern Flood' , Liverpool bay becomes stronger towards HW and 'stops' the flow from the Southern end of the Strait
It just happens that about an hour before HW its 'stopped' at Menai then the flood continues towards Caernarfon
So effectivly it floods and ebbs in the same direction!!!!
Good innit
kawasaki, that's a brilliant description, well done all I know is it's a great spot to have a brew n watch the world go by

Go to this linky Caernarfon Harbour Trust and then click The Swellies and/or Bar Buoy Positions.

Also if you go screaming down the Straits through Y Felinheli and don't notice the ridiculously small out of view yellow buoys there is a very polite chap who puts his blue light on his rib and give you a nice green brochure that includes some charts and speed limits for the Straits

Had a quick blast this afternoon and went from Chris's up the straits. Hit a sand bank! Pit of a panic but eventually got off. Went through the swellies up to Bangor pier and back down. I can't believe I did that. Just shows you what happens when you are not paying attention - fortunately I was only doing 15 knots.

Off to pilot cove tomorrow with Cookie all being well. Hope to see some of you tomorrow

Cracking day yesterday. Many thanks to Chris Caton for his guidance, and to Chris at Ty Calch for first class service (he's a diamond that fella).

First time through the strait and we couldn't have had much better weather! Fantastic scenery. Anchored at puffin for lunch then back through the Strait and home for tea after a bit of playing in the waves off Ty Calch. Hope everyone else has had as good a weekend!

Haha. Was that you? I felt a right plum stood in the boat watching you and Tom struggling. I think the problem is that the keel rollers aren't rolling any more. That and the trailer needed angling up more. I need to replace the rollers but for that I need to get the boat off the trailer.

'twas nice running through the strait with you and Chris (that was you in the 4.8 Tornado?), this was my ribbing high point so far. Will be back as soon as poss.

Just for interest
Last Friday at LW
We put 2 ribs on Menai Bridge pier before the water left Dinorwic
With a Pro TV Cameraman on board we Filmed the Swellies at low water
