MEK versus MEKP ?

MEK seams to be difficult to source. However, MEKP(Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide) is easy to source as this can be purchased where ever polyester resin is sold.

Can MEKP be used for preparing surfaces when gluing PVC in similar manner as MEK or acetone, or is it totally different stuff? Thanks

You can get MEK at any plastic pipe suppliers, Crosslings, BSS, Pipeline Center etc.

OOps! just seen where you are. I'm sure you have plastic pipe suppliers Finland though

So what you say is that MEK is available from plumbers? Or those who sell to plumbers.

I've been trying to get a hold of MEK to wash off the stickyness, but I had to resort to acetone. Didn't feel great.

Through my company I located a firm that would sell me MEK here in sweden, however I had to buy at least 25 liters. It wasn't exactly what I was aiming to do... I could buy it if someone would buy some off me, but I've understood that it wont go through customs without problems. So no finland then And I'm not sure that you're allowed to sell it on here without some permission.

OK, better stick to acetone then. I think its the same here as in Sweden, MEK can be purchased for industrial use but not easy to source for private persons. Regarding Touluene it is kind of same story.

Wonder why Xylene, Acetone and Thinner can be purchased almost anywhere but MEK is so restricted(here).

I think it's on some list of chemicals that can be used in some process of producing drugs. When I googled it I found it on "tullverkets" list of stuff that you can't bring in to sweden..

MEK should be used when preparing PVC for gluing; it acts as both a degreaser and primer.

MEK is readily available over the counter here in the UK for about £6 for 500ml. I know that doesn't help the Scandinavians, but I wonder why the difference. Maybe it's a cheaper alternative to beer in Sweden

Yeah, think pricing is about the same as beer in Sweeden in a restaurant(and here also) . Thinner and acethone cost her about the same. According to customs its same "class" as acetone or thinner so its not restricted by them. PVC pipes are glued her by some dedicated glue, MEK is not used for that purpose. Will continue the search.

MEK is used to clean the pipe ( PVC & abs) prior to glueing. Anyplace that sells the glue will sell the cleaner.
