MCA/Coastguard VHF log

Can anyone tell me if the MCA or Coastguard have an online log of realtime VHF/DSC distress calls that I can access?

Not aware of anything official.
Ship-tracking.co.uk have a receiver at Ryde that records all DSC messages in its area (so close to you). Very little DSC activity gets recorded though..?
Doesn't show a voice only message though.

Thanks for the info guys, handy info for DSC. However I was trying to follow up a voice call Mayday relay I heard yesterday. I was hoping there would be an accessible channel 16 Coastguard log for interested public peeps.

Surely this would breach "the secrecy of correspondence " VHF thingy?

Have a look at your VHF SRC paperwork. I don't see an exception there...

If it was handled by an RNLI or Local Inshore Service they generally list shouts on their websites. If the helo handled it then unless CG decide to issue a press release which is usually only (1) if they want to point out how stupid people are or (2) point out how important their rescue services are. So if it was reasonably mundane they usually don't bother...

Sorry - does the OP mean actual recordings of the VHF transmissions from the emergencies, or a list detailing the nature of the emergencies. I may have misread the question as I thought it referred to the former.

Yes that is the sort of data I wanted, I couldn't hear both stations which is why it was relayed. Just wanted to follow up and bring to a close something I heard. It didn't make the news, so hoping perhaps a false alarm?

No, unlikely such a thing would ever exist too.

HMCG don't even have 'radio logs' any more, everything just goes into a 'working log' unless of course the computer break and the paper comes out but again chances are radio, phone etc will all just go in the one place.

whats 'secrecy of correspondance?'

Isn't it rule number one of VHF?? That everyone can hear you.....

Thats the precise reason that SAR units have channel 0....

Which is exactly why when you get your arc certificate you sign promising never to repeat anything you overhear.

If it was a big deal there would have been a press release on it, most recent is something in padstow co-ordinated by falmouth so I doubt that's it if your in fareham...

There isn't any live info because of the nature of the work, every incident has enough going on without members of the public/pres knowing 'something' is going on and phoning up to ask what it is.

'pan pan pan pan pan pan pan all stns all stns all stns, spoken word mayday heard recently on ch16 on remote ariel site X, any info contact mickey mouse coastguard, but if you do tell us what you've overheard then your in breach of your 'arc certificate' errr, coastguard out.

got a copy of this certificate? it doesn't sound quite right and there isnt much (any) info relating to VHF online

Mick, sorry Src cert (typing on a phone) don't have it handy but I will find you a copy, but from a quick look s.48 of the wireless telegraphy act is relevant. I'm amazed that anyone has done a vhf operators course and not been aware of this requirement. I can't comment on whether the rule applies to MCGA or not. However in your position I would go and find the facts. I don't tthink there is any expectation you won't relay messages etc - but not report the contents to the press, the public, or on t'interweb.

That's the one, which I think is a page of the form asking to be examined for an src / applying to Rya for the actual cert to be issued.
