Mako Ribs

Has anyone got or heard of Mako Ribs from South Africa. They look very similar to Balistics?!

Hi Bob,

from what I can see given that I am buying a ballistic, the mako used to make the ballistic up to 2001 and then seemed to lose the agency. I checked out a previous thread for ballistic half a year ago and some one had the front end of an old ballistic split open. I believe that JBT are now importing the hulls and doing a fine jogb on the boats. Put it like this,
I am buying a Ballistic (of recent edition) and I am not considering Mako from what I have seen and know.

I have a Mako and I love the boat but that could also be because I just don’t know any better. It works awesome as a dive boat in the sound but as people on here have mentioned before there craftsmen ship leaves something to be desired. When bolting on the A-frame the backing plate that should have been glassed in fell out and was just a thin piece of soft ply. My port tube is a good 1” higher in the back then the starboard. Is that normal? When trailering I always end up with fuel on the deck from the breather even if I leave the tank a couple gallons low. Does any one know how to stop this?
But for what I do I love the boat. I’m usually in the sound so I’m dealing with waves smaller then 4’ and with the twin 90’s she flies even when loaded with dive gear.

seen a lot of Makos, owned a lot too, Never ever will buy one, ever again.
thay don't stand behind thare stuff, thay talk the talk, but thats all thay got.
Ballistic FIRED them for NON payment, and quality, lack of. thay will promiss one thing But deliver some thing other. liers

Hey Fred I bought the 6.5M from Mad Dog and the rear scupper is shot. The neoprene gasket that the ball is supposed to seal against is missing junks out of it. Do you know where I can purchase another? Or are you able to warranty that?

Hi Donnie144,
You have given us at least 5 reasons not to buy a Mako.
That petrol fume thing is dangerous... You do not get a 2nd chance with Petrol.
I guess thats it with Mako so...
There are too many good ribs out there to have to endure...

Aidan I would probably have to agree. I how ever got a good deal on this one and have made it through the worst….I think… I’ve been told that the hull is molded after the ballistics and that they are of a much better build if I had to do it over I would pick up a ballistic in a hart beat. All though when running out with the whale watching boats those hurricanes seem to ride a lot smother in 3-4 foot swells then mine.

Hi did you ever sort the fuel problem? I have the same issue.
