Making Rib Cover...
We are attempting to make a rib cover today! But can't remember how to finish it off around the cone ends and transom?

If anyone is walking past their rib today/tomorrow please can you post a couple of pics and I'll let you know how I get on!

5.85 Ribcraft with A frame ( & auxillary )

Heavy duty zips to aFrame ( velrco fitting at top )

And elasticated ties offs at bottom .

Thanks dude, AJ also sent me a couple of pics too. His cover is done the same as yours.

We tilted the engine up and the four stroke merc 75 looked way too high to include it in the cover

We measured up the 545 rib as needing 6.4m x 3m of fabric so we managed to get a full length double seam done before we got rained off with thunder too.

Not Bad for a first attempt
Reckon you could do with a few more fasteners/tie downs before useing it on the Motorway though Al..
.not the sort of thing you want stuck to yer windscreen on the M4!

Would you believe I bought 15m of fabric to be on the safe side for a 545 and only just have enough

Mine (The Brand new genuine Ribcraft one I bought thanks to you for £200 on eBay) has ADJUSTABLE heavy duty elasticated drawstrings sewn into the edges of the portions that cover the Cones..very secure and your able to draw the cover nice and tight which really helps shed the water.

Making Rib Cover...
Thanks, the open back end in the first pic would last about 5 mins where I keep my boat. However your second pic is awesome! A lot of work in that cover!

I'm going to do mine covering the engine in the down position as that's how it's stored

I managed to grab a few pics myself when I was in a Drystack the other day...

The best thing about the cover is it has a skirt that is tightened at the back and this tucks under my tubes so they are all covered - and this means its impossible to lift off without letting them off first - so it shouldn't blow off.

So you want to get into the boat to check something/ hide from the wife or whatever. But the blasted cover is on so its a right faff.

What kind of fabric did you buy ?
I have a lot of "nature" around and my cover made from garden equipment is green now. It looks dusty but when you touch it by paper towel it is green ...

So there are some pollen from trees / bushes.



I'm not sure if spending money for Sunbrella material be good idea. After one season this material be green and less breathable I suppose.

Or can you advice me good breathable material costs half of sunbrella ?

Hey dude I bought Marlen Textiles | Top Notch Solution Dyed Polyester Fabric for Boat Covers, Awnings, Canopies, Bimini Tops & More as there was a guy that owns a large cover company in the warehouse when I was choosing my material, I was going to go for Odyssey again but he recommended it and said it was fantastic and the guy working there agreed with him.

The main advantage is that it's breathable and does not stretch or shrink apparently either. I needed something that will cope with high winds and that can be left for a while without worrying about it.

Unfortunately ducksback covers are no longer working out for me so had a go at making one.

The colour is quite good for hiding dirt but I've noticed that it gets hot quick in the sun even if only out on the boat for a few mins measuring, that's why I didn't go for black. But apart from the white they are all quite dark colours in the range.

Off the top of my head it was about three times the price of normal boat cover fabric but I'm saving the labour by having a go at the weekends, however I could do with spending some more time on this tomorrow

I'll find the video that shows how to make a cover for you
