Does anyone know of a good RIB magazine I can buy?

I have been a subscriber to "RIB International" since its introduction. However, more recent issues seem to have strayed from the original concept, appearing to focus more on the publisher's commercial needs rather than the readers' requirements.
At the same time "Sports Boat and RIB" have greatly increased the amount of articles relating to RIBs and consequently IMHO now provide a better product. The choice is yours, I currently subscribe to both.

I agree with Cypman, also beeing subscriber to it from beginning but am finding Sport boat and rib more of interest, shall get my subscription in soon

I subscribe to RIB International, but sometimes seems like the content is focused too much on bling shiny £50k plus stuff, with the odd article about a 4m Searider thrown in as a concession to the budget end of the market. I will have to check out the other one

I've had a subscription for RIB International/RIB magazine (recent new name) for the last few years. Because of comments on here I had a look at Sports Boat & RIB.
I now subscribe to Sports Boat & RIB and not RIB International.
I'd echo all previous comments re aimed at top end budgets not bread and butter stuff that RIBNET does so well.
I also like the style of writing/articles in Sports Boat and RIB - more down to earth I reckon.

In a previous thread I suggested a PBO equivalent to RIBs.
Responce was good - still an idea out there for some one to make money?

RIBNET is full of information backed up by people who know what they are taking about, based on experience/mistakes or skill (one normally comes from the other)

After this topic went to WH Smiths to pick up a copy of Sports Boat and Rib. Having 'read' it last night have to say IMHO it's a waste of money - more a lifestyle mag aimed at the affluent. Full of glossy pretty pictures but with very little real RIB worthy articles for the 'normal' boater. More articles about places to visit than boats - only RIB test was a £150K FFS!

Also picked up Boat Mart - although not RIB specific this is a superb mag with lots of RIB related stuff and perfect for new/budget users - full of practical articles on small boats, training, how to buy and loads of useful ads aimed at average pockets - highly recommended.

practical boat owner (PB0) altho no rib articles has many articles on how to do and repair small boats. the equiptment reviews and tests (ie bilge pumps, anchors and nav lights) are all down to earth and based round small boats/yachts They could well capture a market if they had a small section for ribs

Wonder if the interest on here would be sufficient to produce a quarterly mag aimed at the middle to lower target market? Ribnet mag. Boats etc from 0-£50k mainly with the odd super duper one for dreaming. Articles on building new transoms and full build threads.

Could state whatever is posted on here can be used as material and is the legal property of ribnet. Corporate membership on here could include being in a list in the mag, with opportunity for full ads at extra price.

Or not?

I'd be interested in buying something like that but the trouble is that publishing is like politics, everybody knows what should be done but not that many are prepared to do it

The full build threads are excellent and very interesting, likewise info on fitting and setting up equipment and real in depth equipment reviews are something I would like to see, it's very hard to choose kit from afar without ever having the chance to see it in the plastic.

I think most of the info that would go in a mag is already available on the rib.net bar new boat reviews.

The likes of PBO are good but even that has started going onto more expensive boats.

Kind of a significant flaw in my plan to venture in to the media world .

Personally i just read the offshore RNLI magazine, everything else i look at on the net.

If I had to - I'd choose Sports Boat and RIB magazine over RIB International, partly because their definition of 'International' is to test boats
almost exclusively along the bleed'n south coast! In addition, they seem to assume their readership have a Goldfish 25' moored at the end of the garden!

For reviews and invaluable technical information - RIBnet gets my vote every time!

OK so I have a plan. A quarterly mag dedicated to Ribs and the "rib net" kind of market, sr4's 5.5 humbers etc.. affordable and practical. Not the shinny new £50K + boats predominantly featured in all the WH Smith glossies. But a Mag for the "practical Rib user".

Boat build and fixes. training and safety advice. boat cruises and holidays. weekend boat launches. completed voyage plans and picture diaries, how to's, how not to's, new kit (affordable) and improvised. boaters profiles. clubs groups and organisations. legislation.

im going to put my mouth where my money is...... I will compile and edit, it will not be a full page glossy but it will make for a good read. If you want me to do this, I will need you support, Your input and more importantly your critacisum.

I am posting a new thread to cover this and to rustle up some interest and further comments.
