Looking for simple Canvas Top for Rib or Ideas

Hey guys, hope you all have been having a good ribbing season so far. I am up in Alaska, few people even know what a rib is here so there are no outfits that officially fabricate amenities for ribs and i haven't seen any ideas for simple tent tops.

I just need an idea for an easy tent top to get out of the rain, set up a propane heater and contain a little bit of heat while being easy to take right back down as soon as i am ready to run again.

I saw a picture of a boat for sale on the for sale section of rib.net once that had a pretty simple design, cannot for the life of me find it or remember...

Heres a couple pictures of our shrimping and fishing season so far. Will be heading out into the Gulf of Alaska to fish for Halibut and Hunt Black bear in June. There is no way to camp on shore off of the gulf and this is why i am in search of an easy tent shelter to hunker down the nights. I would appreciate any given information guys thank you

I'm not quite sure which you are looking for:

A) A nice "fabric" wheelhouse that you can pop up to get some shelter from the weather. In which case some of the Redbay range and the bigger Shearwaters might provide some inspiration. Or perhaps even the Zar's. Essentially a folding metal frame with fabric cover.

B) Something you can actually sleep under - a tent? In which case off the top of my head I think I have seen three examples on here worth highlighting: - Alystra's plumbing pipe & tarp budget construction (on a Humber IIRC); Ribochet's arrangement on his Redbay (his boat is currently for sale - so there may be pics there); some guys who I think had a Scorpion with a diesel inboard - who actually just pitched a "normal" tent over the engine box.

Get a big tarp, drape it over the whole boat and cut around it leaving it about 150mm too long. Fold up the extra, twice, and fit eyelets to take an elastic shock cord. You can shape the tarp to the boat by folding in large darts and catch them into the the eyelets when you fold up the bottom edge.

To attach it to the boat I use pins, kinda like wire tent pegs, and they push through holes made in the rubbing strake, then simply stretch the elastic to clip under the pins.

Your boat doesn't appear to have protruding rubbing strake so you'll have to be inventive with the fastenings around the tubes.

If you want height, in wouldn't be too difficult to put up a frame at your console - then you could stand to pull yer pants up!

Cool pics BTW!

I think you're going to need a structure of some sort, a t-top frame at least. The you could fasten some canvas walls to it. I have the same boat with a T-top. In California it's cool enough that I've been thinking about some "wings" off the top to block the wind. Same problems, what do you attach to on the tube side? Also there really isn't much room on these boats. I think I'm going hard boat next with some more comforts, seats and walls....

Right on Bro! that is it, thanks for hunting that down man. I am going for that setup, i will improvise with a heavy duty black tarp. I will drill out my console and through-bolt pipe for a taller stature. Basically aiming the turn the entire rib into a tent for the nights.

It would be awesome to have something professionally fabricated though, like jeff posted. Just need to find a way to have a permanent light duty tent skeleton that does not get in the way at all when running. We will figure something out!
