These look very impressive.

http://www.englands1.com/system/index.html

Good videos of the product being tested - 6x .44magnum rounds and a high velocity rifle round and the lifejacket STILL works!!!

NOTE - website only works in IE - possibly newer versions of firefox.

Life jackets

No, they are mesh across the back & shoulders with a normal Manual hydrostatic life jacket incorperated into the front & fasten with a single plastic push clip at the front (the same clip as on an impact vest you would ware on a jet ski). Hard to discribe really but extreamly cool looking, just wish id brought two at the london show.....but Ribcraft cleaned me out!

Looks a promising product ( military version) However their ballistic data is a load of BS. 9mm velocity is less that 50% of muzzle vel. there is no way that even a ceramic( usually boron carbide) insert will stop a 30-06 AP. Also, the AK 47 round ( 7.62 39) is not a high velocty round; only about 2500 fps.
Mostly avertising crap with associated bimbos.

Dont worry, found um.........."Kru Sport Pro Lifejacket 175n" available through, www.oceansafety.com £89.95.
Wont stop a speeding bullet but rather useful if you fall over the side.

Can you explain again please - "9mm velocity is less that 50% of muzzle vel." has me a little puzzled. They were using .44 rounds anyway - not 9mm.

New level III and level IV ceramic inserts are designed to stop 7.62 short and even 30-06. Of course they had weight and bulk though.

Look again at the site. You missed the info. on 9mm. Also there is a huge difference between 7.62 short(Russian) and 30-06 AP. in terms of penetrating power, probably in the order of 100%. The Russion short has a mild steel core, 123 grain @ 2500fps ( at best, usually closer to 2350 fps from a AK47) and the 30-06 a hardened steel core, 150grain, at approx 2850fps.
Soft body amour is marginal at best on a standard ( off the shelf) 44 mag. using a 230 grain jacketed projectile @ 1250fps. However, if you drop the projectile to 200 grain and up the load a little you can get 1500fps and there is no soft body armour in the world that will stop that. And, yes, you can buy them as specialiality ammo of the shelf.
These guys are full of BS. If you wish to have a debate on exterior ballistics then please be my guest, but please be aware I used to be in the armour business and have tested everything from 5.56 Nato up to 14.5mm. Russian

I am well aware of the differences in various rounds - 450240 is firmly stuck in my head without needing Google!!!

Obviously the AK47 round is going to be stopped easier than 30-06 springfield. That is why I mentioned class III and class IV armour. As the company mentioned are approved suppliers to the military I doubt they are full of shit.

Actually very high velocity can be counter productive when it comes to penetration. Have you seen the Mythbusters prog where they were shooting rounds at a dummy in the water? The higher the velocity and more powerful the round the LESS it penetrated the water because the round disintegrated on impact. Only about 2' down and even .50 wouldn't hit you. The heavier and slower slug from a 12 bore was the best if I remember rightly.

Another thing to consider is shock effect. I don't think an armoured vest would help you much if you were hit by a car - it may not penetrate but you would still be very dead!!!

These are a buoyancy aid rather than a lifejacket, but the black does have a very smart look to it. We can have custom patched made up too, for that added impact and at 39.00 a go they leave room in the wallet...

Hi Codpiece
Why is that when you are challenged on ALL of your inaccurate posts that you respond by twisting the subject so you can have the last word. There must be a name for your condition. Maybe it is called " lack of integrity" Do you have any other explanation? You may ask why I challenge you: 1. most of your stuff is rubbish 2. In reponse to my first post on this forum you called me " a damn Yank" ( I am English). I think that makes you a bad mannered idiot, because when I advised you of this you failed to apologise.
Any sensible discussion with you is a waste of time.

Once again I made a very innocent remark only to come under attack. I didn't start an argument and had no intention of doing so!!!

As to you being British I would have thought that was pretty obvious from the "limey" bit - when I called you a "Damn Yank" it was merely a joke - something someone with a sense of humour would have realised.

You may consider me a "bad mannered idiot" but I can't remember EVER having started attacks on ANYONE on this forum........

Hi Cods
Lousy joke, did not say sorry, and of course you still have to the last word and cannot bring yourself to apologise. My previous comments still stand.

I never realised you were such a sensitive soul - I am very SORRY if my remarks offended you.

Now do I get an apology for you calling me "Codpiece"???
