Launching from Ilfracombe

I have some work in the Bristol channel later this week. Has anybody launched from Ilfracombe . Or any where else along the north Devon coast. We I'll also need to drop some of the film crew on the welsh coast. Any advice on the area and the Bristol channel would be very helpful

We did quite a bit of work for the BBC on that area of the coast a few years back - Ilfracombe is the best but the harbour dries out to a sandy bottom - if you ask nicely you can tie boats up to the pier (lots of fenders needed). Trailer parking can be arranged with the harbour master if I remember correctly.

All that Cookie said is right...although I prefer Launching at Appledore as it is accesable through all states of the tides (Except small windows on BIG Springs)Is a great slip, nice and wide,...You can hire a swinging mooring if you call the Harbourmaster. And I have heard of a few things going 'missing' at Ilfacome...Which is sometimes a problem with a Drying Harbour with a nice sandy Bottom, and lots of Grockles!

Great thanks for the info. Last question is I'll be launching 2 hours before high water and recovering the same tide state in the evening. Will I be ok on that slip way with a long wheel base transit. Rear wheel drive should help....

Should be OK...with a R.W.! Drive Tranny,it's not overly steep, and only Greasey at the Bottom end,and like most Slipway's...there's generaly a 'Good Samaratin' about if you have any problems.

We made a remote steer and control panel for this boat so that it could be driven from anywhere on the boat, that way numpty actors could pretend to drive the boat whilst we were! I then had to drive it up a sandy beach 9 times on the Isle of Man!
