I would sugest Appledore as a decent bet,a little distance from Bude but"Good" launch sites are a little thin on the ground in them thar parts!A pretty big tidal range is always a major consideration. Depends realy on the area you want to cruise.

thanks, im going down for the weekend in september and thought i might as well take the boat.
i will be lookng to do a bit of fishing and maybe take a cruise up/down the coast, depending on weather etc.

boscastle is not too far south and has a decent slip, slips are scarce around there, andy treerat will be your man

Hello

Bude has an easy launch if there is no surf - about two hours or so either side of high tide so sdon't be out too long. Boscastle isa pig. Busy as hell and about the same time frame as Bude.

Port Gaverne is a beach launch but ok at all states of the tide - fees payable at the pub but it's olnly a few quid.

As others have said Appledore is good - straight into the Estuary with plenty of fun to be had. Plymouth is only an hour away with all the options you have there.

There's a slip in Bideford too at the end of Kingsley Road which would be pretty easy to access - also one at Instow if memory serves. It's all VERY tidal though around the Bideford estuary so you'd need to be careful with that.

Is there not a slip by the castle in Bude? It's been so long since I've been there I can't remember.

hrmm... beach launch would be good as i could use it at any state of tide. so long as its not too soft under foot.

It's fine. You don't want to hang around on the soft stuff but once it dries it really dries.

Bidefords slipway is fine but Appledore's is so much easier and only 10 minutes away.

port gaverne is a nice little place, the pub is pretty good for food as well and as andy says the beach is pretty hard, if you have a day while in the area, hartland quay is a nice spot to visit, there is a small museum with loads of shipwreck stuff and a pub next to it with great views out to lundy

Mind you, it's possible to recover at low tide in Appledore if you've got a nice wide set of tyres and 4x4. I've done it.

If there's a nice big lolloping Atlantic swell coming through that w/end, it may pay not to waste the addition fuel towing the boat down there.
