In my experience you are fine with all the main sandy beaches, although strictly some are private. In terms of exploring the creeks, the channels are marked, but some not well. Find the route at high tide and don't chance it up to Frogmoor or South Pool any more than 2 hours either side of high. Plenty of stories of boats being left stuck in the mud and it's a long time to wait!!

One important (and pedantic) piece of useless information: the Kingsbridge estuary is actually a ria not an estuary. In any case, it is a great place in a boat of any size although the area off Salcombe can become very crowded especially during the summer regatta.
