FWIW I used to travel round and use rescue boats while my sis did the small white triangle thing, so I got a lot of different setups to play with. The following are the duistilled combined thoughts:

Wrist - as said above- only when velcro-ed on properly, and only when on a small tiller boat with tiller gearshift...

Belt - only one boat - ever. That being an 11' dory where I was closer to the engine than the remotes! Needless to say I only needed to half stand up to kill the motor.

Knee- I have totally re- wired my console to get al lthe electrics bar the Anti start in gear & PT switch out the throttle lever - partly for ease of maintenance, partly due to the lack of waterproofing n the control box, but also meant I could put the deadman switch really near my knee, this maximising the useable length of the cord and keeping it out the way. Also my knee doesn't move if I stand. I'm usually solo, so it cutting out if I walk off absent mindedly probably isn't a bad thing.

Bottom line is that what works for you is the next bod's worst nightmare. Try & see what works best for you in your boat.

Personally on the RIB I always attach round my leg.

In the tiller steered SIB the killcord is fastened to a velcro strap which goes around my wrist.

Never tried connecting to LJ

On a console RIB I clip mine around the crotch strap on my LJ. It's about right when standing to drive, which I prefer. It doesn't catch in the wheel, or my hands and as it isn't looped around my leg, has better "travel".

I clip my kill cord off to my pocket typically be it my boardshorts, drysuits, or a pair of pants. I personally don't like wrist straps. My self inflating life jacket is too high to clip to, as the cord gets in the way.



Sometimes there isn't much to clip it to. A bikini ring suffices though.

i have mine around my thigh just above the knee. My knee is right under the switch, so it actually allows a reasoble amount of movement before it activates. i have been wondering about one of these devices along the lines of the new cars, where you have a smart card and black box and when you are more than 20' or so away, it kills the ignition? would be good for allowing free movement around the rib without killing the engine.

would be good for letting you get in the prop before its even thought about killing the engine.

The clip on mine is really stiff and while its ok for me who has 'the knack' any crew trying to put it on usually have difficulties. I always say that its the first test of a new crew member - how to put on the killcord - it certainly reminds them they have it on.

Where I put it? It varies - D ring on LJ and round the leg - just wear it!
