After looking for a new RIB for a month or two... a chap on my site has decided to let his go....

I put a deposit on it on Sunday.... I'm having buyers remorse at the moment (the sick feeling you get when you spend your savings on something) so any positive comments would be great

or negative feedback would also be appreciated....

2005 craft with 2005 engine. The engine is a 250hp and has less than 200 hours on, full service history and has been maintained religiously... its a 7.5m.. a rear bench seat can be fitted in the stern... What do you think ? Any idea's on price ?

Don't have! I always get that feeling especially if i have saved for something for a long time, but life has taught me a good lesson "memories are better than dreams!". So just be happy.

Pricewise, I saw a very ncie Osprey Vipermax in Wales with a 250hp Evinrude for about £20k asking price. There is a 6m one for just £11k asking price; similar features, just shorter and slightly smaller outboard.

So, tell us how much you have to see as "debit" in your next bank statement?!

News Update.... Its back on the market !

I'm speaking to the chap in two weeks... in the meantime I was planning on looking at a Revenger 27... any thoughts as a comparison ? Also... anyone fancy PM'ing me what they thing the Osprey is worth ??

Not entirely sure but from what i have seen on here and this is only the feeling i get from being on here for a few years

a) you'd have a bigger market for selling the Osprey to. They are highly rated and appear fairly desirable, not many bad things are said about them anyway. Meant to be good build quality. (You should know!!!

b) from looking at the hulls, the revenger looks a faster boat rather than seaworthy boat, that's not to say it isn't seaworthy, just it looks a more pointed shape from above and from the side, ie the deadrise is different. The one's i have seen on here only have either two or a minimal amount of seats and look like they could be used for racing, (i think it is a racing based hull??) Haven't heard many bad things about them either.

I'd have the Osprey! but that's just me. It does look a nice boat and if the figures are correct, a good example. All dependant on price.

As for price. And this is just me! I'd hazard a guess at a new 7.5m hull and tubes being 25k, plus 15k for an engine and another 5-10k on trailer and fitting out. So just shy of 50k. Based on the fact it is 5 years old, it will probably have halved with regular leisure use after 3-4 years, certainly by 5 years. It looks in good nick, average leisrue use is say 30-90 hrs per year. So it is just under average mileage in car terms. I'd take a stab at being £25k, but only worth £20-£22k, though I wouldnt pay half it's new price or more for sure. If he's unsure of selling it, it is likely it is overpriced. Remember, i am no dealer though!!!! It's only worth what someone will pay.

For example, a cheaper brand and 2003, but similar size advertised at 16950, probably go at 14/15

Give Phil Morris a call at Revenger. He is a very decent bloke and will be able to give you information i suspect!

At the risk of sounding like Codprawn the Revenger hull is actually very good! it is fast with a capital F and pretty soft as well.

We looked at a 29 and the new 32 before our last boat and they are screwed together very well. The tapered tubes give the image of lack of buoyancy in the bows but dont actually believe that to be the case.

The Revenger will i suspect be more leisure orientated in terms of seating and layout but depends what you want to use the boat for. if your after something to cart divers or race marks around then maybe its not the one for you!

i have only been in NautiBouy's old Vipermax and that was VERY soft ride, was really impressed with the hull and overall performance. some of the Ospreys are self build / fit out and would look carefully at the finish as they will all vary i am sure.

Thanks Paul & Zippy... you both make a lof of sense... esspecially 'its only worth what someone is willing to pay'.... it seems a lot of RIB's are hanging around on this forum and other sites that would normally sell fast and well (my RIB thats for sale included). I worry that as we head into the "recession proper" people have decided to bank their cash. I imagine its worth the asking price, but lets be honest, not many people want a 7.5M RIB in reality, and fewer people have got 20k+ to throw at it.... I'd be tempted to wait till deepest winter and make a reduced offer, but as he's a friend, and in no rush to sell, i think that would be pointless...

As for the Revenger V Osprey debate... I think as you said... horses for courses... my only concern would be the revenger in the big stuff, but lets be honest no boat over performs in the big stuff without a bit of slamming and a wet ride... I'm going to test drive the Revenger and then have a long hard think....
