Forth Ports Order 1980 and having carried out the consultations required
by that section, has given the following general direction to vessels

The imposition of a strict speed limit of 10 knots over the ground when

moored to a buoy...... "

I got pulled off the ranger on loch ken in my honwave sib once he said it takes 66 seconds to go from the 10knt sign to the old railway bridge if your doing 10knts and I did it in 42 seconds so I was speeding I told him to piss off as my sib had no speedo I was guessing my best. he pissed off

just tell them you had to go that fast as it was so boring on the forth you were falling asleep so wanted to get ashore asap.

Probably better than a day out on out on forth? Scenery is similar to a cell......big bits of iron is all you will see.

Probably a bit like the Clyde technically there is a speed limit right down to the cumbraes but no one takes any notice they only bother you higher up if your close to the naval bases or there's any sub movements.
I once did the forth and Clyde from east to west I rang the lockkeeper at grangemouth to book a lock in before departing from port Edgar and he said you'll miss the tide "not at 30kts I wont" was my reply he said ok I'll meet you at the mouth of the carron in the rib. Follow me exactly he said & keep up! we did the run up to lock 1 on the plane in a 32 ft cruiser when we got to the lock entrance I said what was the hurry? His reply was there's only 4ft of water in places and less in some I wanted to keep you on the plane & if the tide was any higher you wouldn't have got under the bridges
Apparently before the new link was built there was 16ft below one of the bridges to the river bed we had 9'6 air draft and about 3ft water draft stationary
If I'd known that I might not have gone up at all

The attraction of the forth is the islands in my mind inchkieth is fascinating to rake around the others are well worth a reccy too

The attraction of the forth is it is only 90 mins from the west coast for decent sailing.

Edit, 're clyde speed limit- absolutely bang on. I've been stopped 4x going up loch long but they have only mentioned speed once and it was only a threat from someone having a bad day. The other 3 were purely to keep to north or where you going. I've been up there many times though so not a bad ratio and generally nice folks on the police boats.

we've had the kids out a couple of times at them have you been inside the tunnels and into the bunkers the only - point is the smell of bird shit and the amount of it I walked from one end of the pier to the other and gained about 3 inches in height

We went at nesting time they get a bit err territorial when there's eggs everywhere was like something out of the birds.
I actually fancy a trip back in the winter when there's no foliage and less pterodactyl to attack

They could. Whether they do or not is likely to be affected by many things - including some of the attitudes presented in this thread. Rest assured that if you have a nasty accident then books will be thrown and as a leisure boater there are few rules to break so this one might be used.

I’ve never heard of anyone actually being prosecuted for this on the forth, but other areas have done, the evidential burden probably isn’t as tough as you think.
