Interesting discussion on power/length ratios!

As an aside I was looking at a couple of RNLI inshore lifeboats moored up in East Cowes at their overhaul centre and they seem to be generally powered by twin 75 hp (2 stroke) ie 150hp in total. This is on what is, I guess, a 7 or 8 m rib that I imagine is quite heavy with 3 guys and associated safety kit. I wonder what top end they get, either way it is clearly enough to tackle some pretty serous weather/seas!

Any views???

Phil we went for a bit of extra power and have to say we haven't regretted it for a minute

Look forward to seeing the new craft!

Hi Phil
If you remember me from the Littlehampton meet this year i had a Cobra 7.5mt with a 225 four stroke and i would not have wanted any thing smaller.
I have a friend with a 200 HPDI two stroke Yamaha on a 7.5 and that goes well. I think you will be working a 150 so hard that the fuel consumption will go though the roof also you will always want the extra power believe me.
