60 'will do'. It'll start becoming proper fun at about 70.

Hi Fred.

Mine came with a 60 and it will get on the plane but only got 24 kts max. Also struggled onto the plane if you had 4 or 5 people on board. Changed that to the max 90 2st (be careful on max weight if you go 4 st).

What a better boat and you are not thrashing the engine. I actually use less fuel and oil than I did with the 60!

If you want anymore opinions there are lots of other SR 5.4 owners around most of whom also seem to have around 80 or usually 90 horses on the back.

Regards

Ian

sssllliigghtly off topic....

on a 70hp 2str yammie, I've heard from a certain little birdie that sticking a 17 or 19cm prop on it is acceptable and the gear box is happy to deal with it.

True but it would be kinda fun to borrow someone elses and see what it's like with 150 hp on the back end . Guess wheelies would be easy, wonder if it could pull a stopper by getting a small wave to trip the stern. Were is Rogue Wave when you need to borrow an Avon

Looks dangerous but providing the kill cord works and i ve got my drysuit on and auto inflate dry suit I will give it ago tommorow! I wouldn't want to own it but it would be fun for a blast, might make abit of a mess of the inside of my dry suit though.
To be honest the SR4 scares the shit out out of me as it is! And my last boat was a 45mph Ring 16, the Searider feels quicker.
I ve seen SR5.4's with 60hp's on just fine, my ideal one would have a Yammie 90 on it though.

He's making a determined effort to drink his way through Belfasts stock of Magners. Considering he hasn't got a bottle opener, he's doing alright with his teeth.

He should be making his way down St. Georges channel some time this week, coincidentally, when Greenwood is making passage from Pwllheli to Cork in Barinthus.

I've got twenty quid on a mid channel collision
