Is size important :-)

When i bought my 4m SR4 it came with a DT55 2 stroke. It's been fine but I've noticed a few threads that seem to think it's too big for the boat.

The insurance company are aware and haven't raised any questions but the reg plate says max engine size is 50hp.

I don't really want to change it unless i have to, what do you think folks?

As you have cleared it with insurance I would not worry, I would make sure the insurance company are aware that the boat is rated for 50 hp though as you do not want them to have an angle to decline insurance on!
What speed are you getting?

It might be labeled as over powerful but don't forget the chance of the motor putting out 55hp these days is very unlikely, possibly very unlikely from the factory... as long as it isn't overweight i would not be bothered.

My uncle runs a dt55 on his sr4 and hasn't had any problems, it weighs less than a honda 50hp 4 stroke which seems quite a popular engine on a sr4.
